After our fun times in P-town I was sad to go, but I knew I had good times ahead of me. Not necessarily the driving, per se, but the light at the end of the tunnel…Kyle’s family!
Unfortunately, there was still a significant amount of the I-5 to be tackled first. 🙁
We left straight from our Vita Cafe lunch. Why oh why I didn’t go to the bathroom first is something I’ll never know (and a mistake I won’t repeat again either). The Portland temps were approaching the triple digits and I was downing water like a drought was on the horizon, so the first few hours of the trip were a little rough on my bladder. Smart Elise, super smart.
I will!
Hello Washington, nice to see you!
And then the mileage count begins (again).
Tick tock. Tick tock.
I was snacking along the way thanks to my friend’s gift of One Lucky Duck (raw) oatmeal raisin cookies.
I friggin’ love these. I even managed to NOT eat the entire package. Although I did eat them two by two. You can order them online peeps, so get to it!! Operation Don’t-Ruin-My-Dinner-Appetite: ready, set, go.
Getting closer…
Too bad Seattle wasn’t our destination. It was a gorgeous skyline though! Maybe a stop is in our future on the way back? After we FINALLY made it through the 5 mile an hour stop-and-go traffic, it was dinner time.
Lynnwood’s Fred Meyer has an impressive bin section!
Carob energy chunks? And carob chips? We are not in Kansas anymore, that’s for sure!
I like it :)
In addition to the above goodies, we got more of the tried and true (bread, veggies, hummus, and fruit).
Snackface to the max. Mmmm. And then it was Kyle’s turn to drive.
I swear it was his goal to make me miss all the mileage signs.
See? He was so pleased with himself each time I couldn’t get my camera up in time!
The scenery speaks for itself.
It almost looks fake, doesn’t it?!?
Another missed pic for Elise, another fist pump for Kyle.
Kyle’s description of the beautiful scenery: “this is straight up Lord of The Rings sh!t.” Nerd.
At long last, we arrived.
I’ll try to pop in from time to time, but I’m in full on vacation mode. The sun rises at 5 and doesn’t set until 9, so the days are full, and I’m going to soak it all up.
Such gorgeous scenery, I am so jealous! It looks like you are having an amazing vacation. Enjoy it! 🙂
Those mountains are gorgeous!!! Long trips in the car suck, but that beats driving through the midwest (my usual route) any day!
Beautiful pictures! and I LOVE Athenos hummus! Yummm
wow BEAUTIFUL!!! Those mountains almost look like the mountains here in Utah!
Welcome to Washington! Glad you got to check out a Fred Meyers!
I was just in Washington for my cousin’s wedding (a town about 45 miles outside of Seattle) and I said the exact same thing about it being “Lord of the Rings-ish”! Haha. Nerds unite 😉 Hope the weather is nice and sunny during your visit!
I just moved out of Vancouver two weeks ago and looking at your pictures makes me miss the mountains (and daytrips to shop in Bellingham) so much! You’re going to have great time there!
it’s always been a goal of mine to drive up the west coast…. want to go to oregon and washington so badly! jealous.
haha i think kyle’s fist pump belongs in joisy not cali 😉 my brosef was practicing his fist pump this weekend for an uber italian wedding he has to attend…not nearly as good as kyle’s got it down
enjoy vaca mode girl!!!!
Have fun! Stay hydrated 🙂
You must stop in Seattle – I love that town! (But I love Portland more.)
Enjoy your vacay!
Hey! I live in Seattle. *waves*
So, here’s where you should go if you stop in my hood on your way back:
Well-established sandwich shop serving hot/cold sandwiches and sides, all of which are completely vegan: http://www.hillsidequickie.com/
And its sister restaurant, which is the place I always go when I want a FILLING vegan wrap (the Jamaican jerk tempeh wrap is A+): http://www.yelp.com/biz/sage-cafe-seattle
Extreeemely good vegan donuts (the French Toast flavor is so good.).. My non-vegan boyfriend loves these donuts as much as I do… http://www.mightyo.com/ – This donut shop happens to be right across the street from my favorite coffee place, Zoka, too. Not that there’s a shortage of excellent coffee in Seattle.
Raw organic vegan cafe, Chaco Canyon: http://www.chacocanyoncafe.com/ (I blogged it – http://meltyrobot.wordpress.com/2010/05/12/saint-beverage-of-thirstington/)
Vegan smoothies and vegan hemp soft serve! http://www.yelp.com/biz/healeo-seattle
New vegan bistro with outdoor seating that I hear good things about but haven’t personally tried yet (even though it’s a short walk from my house): http://www.yelp.com/biz/plum-vegan-bistro-seattle
I used to be vegan so I know The Places. If you need any more deets, I got your back, dogg.
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!! What a helpful and amazing comment. I can’t wait to take our trip back at the end of the month. 🙂
Hey Elise,
The Bevins (that’s what we call Bev and Kevin) are great friends of ours and they are thrilled you are joining their family! CONGRATS and enjoy our beautiful part of the country!!
Awww! I have to admit I was a bit confused (slash creeped out) when you mentioned their names…but once I realized you weren’t *in fact* stalking me, and you knew them, it made my day to hear such nice things. We are having a total blast in Lynden. Cooking, babysitting, and relaxing aplenty. I’ll pass on a “hello” to the Bevins 🙂
i am so jealous of everything. the road trip, the meet-up (!!!), the starbucks and the food. end of story.
You’re welcome! Have a splendid time!
It looks like you are having a blast! Carob chips, fist pumps, scenery and all.
I drove with my brother from Spokane WA to Seattle, and that alone was quite the drive! Kudos for making it! And yayyyy for vacation. Ah.
