Weird

How is everyone doing? Weird? This is weird, right?

Yeah. So I have been going through the motions of processing everything…wallowing, whining, all that stuff. But now I am choosing to move on and focus on the positive. I specifically stayed away from blogging until I reached this point because I didn’t want to seem insensitive complaining about having to cancel our Japan trip when the rest of the world is suffering. But seriously, it was a CRUSHING blow as I called all the reservations for ninja lessons, restaurants, hotels, etc to undo the trip that I’d been planning for almost a year.

But now here I am…a full on home school teacher filling our day with as many different things I can, keeping us all sane (and our brains slightly stimulated).

I may get around to sharing some eats from the past month, but I basically realized I have zero time to myself now, so it will come when it comes.

Is everything canceled for you too? Are you all staying inside? Any fun things you have been doing indoors that you want to share? There are a ton of educational resources out there (many are free during this self isolation time), so that’s great.

We broke the rules on Sunday to visit my parents and sisters. I hadn’t seen my parents in over a month because they were hiking in Patagonia and vacationing in the surrounding areas for a few weeks. I needed family time to bring my mood up and we wanted to celebrate Kyle and Valley’s birthday, so we went to see them on Sunday (church was canceled along with everything else).

Let this be a “what not to do” for social distancing. But cousin time is the best!

My sisters and their families were there for a few hours before all the babies needed afternoon naps. So then we put on a documentary on Africa to pass the time.

Tasting this gave me big time Argentina flash backs. <3

For dinner we had miso maple salmon, an orange poppyseed slaw, and roasted Brussels sprouts. šŸ™‚

Back in Davis, Kyle headed to work and we started to find our rhythm as a home school.

We are trying for two 30 minute “school” sessions (AM/PM) in which the kids do different work book activities. They love this, so it’s been easy thus far. We have lots of different options to choose from spanning math, science, sequencing, money, tracing, time, writing, etc. aimed at each of their levels.

I’m also relying on tv for exercise now, since it’s raining. Youtube is my go-to, and they love cosmic kids yoga, as well as yoga for kids, daniella ballerina, and this exercise video. There’s tons of content out there!

I’m going to *try* to figure out some kind of art craft each day (above you can see the St. Patrick’s Day themed one). They are going to keep up free pay “quite time” after lunch (usually this is separate so they can do whatever in their rooms).

I’m sure there will be a lot of tv because that’s life, but we will do as much reading and board games and whatever other family things as possible, pending my sanity.

Luckily I have a deep food supply, because I have heard the scene at the grocery store is ugly right now. Rather than participate in that madness and add to the chaos, I have been making basics for us using what I have on hand.

Like this pasta! I had lentils and noodles in the pantry and home made marinara in the freezer. Added some parm on top – and that was that.

This is insanity! We closed on our first house on Wednesday and moved in this past Saturday. Bad timing for us since we were trying to use up food and supplies (aka toilet paper) at our condo so we had less to move. The stores are absolutely crazy. So, not only is the world a mess, so is our house! My anxiety is through the roof. Oh, we also have a 7-month-old. I shouldn’t complain because it could be much worse, but man, I don’t even know how to contemplate all of this. And, yes, we have had quite a few cereal and milk, and trail mix dinners because the kitchen is a disaster zone and the last thing I want to do is add a bunch of dirty dishes to the mess šŸ™‚

Yes, this is weird. I’m on the other side of the country as you (Wash DC area) and same thing is happening here. I don’t really know what to think of it, but I can’t imagine this being the “new normal” for an extended period of time. I’m an introvert, but being inside for days on end is already starting to get to me. I’m not homeschooling, but trying to keep a 9 month old an 3 year old entertained all day. Yikes.

Don’t minimize it…that’s plenty to be anxious about. Good luck!!
