Well.
Well well well.
What to say. These few days have been…interesting…let’s just focus on the things that went right.
I baked individual cakes for each kid and then we let them each have a “special night” with us, in which they stayed up later (after the other one was in bed) and had cake and hung out with me and Kyle. Neither knew the other did it. They both think it was a unique experience that they got on the sly. And it was so cute and awesome for all of us. Since we can’t do much in the way of dates with the kids these days, this was a great option. It felt so fun having all our attention devoted to just one child and they both delighted in having the spotlight.
P got Monday night and V got Tuesday night.
I had baked and frosted the cakes while the kids were at my parents’ house over the weekend and hidden them away so they were a total surprise.
I added sprinkles too because why not.
P watched part of an episode of the World’s Toughest Race eco-challenge with us while eating some of his cake (it was a lot so he still has more for later).
And V watched Making the Cut.
Both shows were perfectly suited to their interests. And of course this was after we just hung out and talked and played for a while.
One-on-two time is a big deal!
And then school started…
And I already alluded to how well THAT went.
Needless to say, I was ready to crack this long before a socially accceptable happy hour.
So I did!
It was smoky and we couldn’t go anywhere anyway (not that I feel like I have to justify anything).
And now we have made it out the other side of the week and although almost nothing has gone as planned and we have had to make a ton of changes to our lives to make things run semi-smoothly…we are all alive.
Pretty low bar, but I think that’s how 2020 is going for everyone else too.
I think that is a wonderful idea….getting each one of the kids alone for one night! Way to go!
