My second night shift was as uneventful as my first (just the way I like it).
I did feel like a vampire though, not just because I was awake all night, but because I was constantly waking my patients up to suck draw their blood. I try to cluster my care so they get as much rest as possible, but when multiple labs are required throughout the shift, it makes it hard (on them and me).
Ah well, what can ya do? There’s little that makes me happier than troponins trending down. Ok, that’s not true. I’d ideally like a patient without elevated troponins at all. But I’m getting off subject…
I had “breakfast” around 2 pm.
Similar to yesterday’s quinoa breakfast bowl, but with my quinoa granola instead of peanut butter.
After I poured almond milk over the whole thing, the smaller granola parts stuck to the strawbz. This pleased me. 🙂
I did more planning for this weekend’s trip and eventually packed my food for the night. No photo because it was literally the exact same thing as the night before.
When I opened this tin of cupcakes, I discovered Kyle had done serious work on it while I was away the previous night. He fessed up to eating 4, but I suspect that really means 8. I can’t blame him – they’re delicious.
I had one more, then got ready for work (shoved deodorant and the likes in a backpack for post-cycling-clean up).
Like I said, the night was fine, and I biked back home and managed to sleep for a solid 4 hour block.
Now I’m trying to finish packing because tonight we are off to NYC! Red eye flights are hard enough, but adding in my current vampire sleep patterns, I think my body’s going to be completely confused.
I’m too excited to care.
I hope the weather doesn’t suck.
I look forward to reuniting with Lady Liberty. And a bunch of fancy restaurants.
Hope you have a great time away! How I love visiting New York (sigh). xxx
Hope your stay in NYC! I hope to see a lot of pretty pictures you take there 🙂

Haha, I always took sleeping pills so I could sleep through the overnight blood draws. One time a phlebotomist came in to take my blood during the day and said it was nice to see me awake. I told her I had no idea who she was, then she said she’d been taking my blood in the middle of the night for two weeks! Lord knows what I said to her in my sleeping pill induced state…
Have fun in NYC!!!!
Have fun! That’s one place I haven’t been yet, but I would really like to go. 🙂
Uneventful shifts are always nice! 🙂 Hope your time in NYC is amazing!
