Treating an addiction

Ever since I tried Justin’s chocolate peanut butter cups I have been craving them for dessert.  Every.  Single.  Night.

It’s kinda a problem.  Well, only because I can’t afford to continue the habit.  I bought two packages on my first grocery trip.  I had them back to back nights.  I then went out of my way to take another trip to Whole Foods a few days later because those interim nights’ desserts were pathetic in comparison to the chocolate-y peanutty goodness that Justin’s treats possess.  I really didn’t need any other groceries, but I needed the cups.

I bought another two packs.  They are already gone now too.

Guys, I’m one late night WF run away from a full blown addiction.  They’re all I think about.  Further proof?

I’ve resorted to incorporating chocolate and peanut butter into breakfast!  Breakfast!!!

Because that’s normal.

There was more chocolate and peanut butter in this bowl of oats than actual oats.  And I loved it!

Holy sh!t I’m an addict.

Ha, I always put chocolate and nut butter in my oats. I just break the chocolate into chunks and stick them into the hot oatmeal, so when I get there, it’s all melted and wonderful. Yes. That’s about it.

I think that is a really nice addiction! Lately I am addict to hot chocolate with ginger. I have to have it everyday! But thank God I can make it cheaply at home!

Lately, I’ve been adding carob chips to my almond butter oats in the morning. I think I’m addicted, too, but it just tastes so good. And when I don’t add it, it feels like there’s something missing. Oh well, what can ya do?! 🙂

I say, enjoy this phase of addiction! I go through phases where I constantly want to eat one item – it was kale chips (which consumed my time because I had to keep making them), now it’s home-made seaweed crackers. I’m sure next week I’ll be crazy about peanut butter or something. Go with it!

I know the feeling. I have been craving chocolate lately. So instead of choosing an unhealthy choice and going for a vegan chocolate bar I have been loading up on raw cacao powder in my smoothies. That’s healthier right? Right?

How do you get your peanut butter ‘liquid-y’ for your oats?

  12. Karien @ RunningtheRace

The Justin’s pb cups are sooo good! Last night, my bf and I were sitting around eating Ghiradelli dark chocolate chips with peanut butter straight from the jar, so I totally feel you! 🙂

those cups are SOOO good! i was that way when i first tried so delicious’ coconut milk ice creams- those are freaking fabulous as well.

i would say to make some home made cups to save some dough, but they don’t really measure up to justin’s deliciousness.

There are definitely worse things you could be addicted to!

i have deliberately stayed away from the ice creams bc i know id finish the entire tub in one sitting. i had a so delicious coconut milk mini ice cream bar at expo last year and almost had a stroke. soooo good!!

  23. Elise (Post author)

    well done!

these actually are carob chips (to be perfectly honest, i prefer them to chocolate), but in other bowls ive been adding wedges of dark chocolate (mostly ghirardellis squares).

i nuke the peanut butter in the microwave for a few seconds to get it melty, but i have made peanut flour sauces before too…
as a random precaution, i always adding the peanut flour sauce in as im cooking the oats though – simply because im scared of eating peanut flour raw. i dont know what happens to raw flour in my digestive tract, but i dont want to find out in case it isnt pretty.

do you have experience with eating the flour uncooked? is it safe to do?

  25. Elise (Post author)

    yup. for sure.

  26. Elise (Post author)

microwave it first. you could also thin it out with almond milk. but i like it warm like its the fudge on a sundae.

  27. Elise (Post author)

    mmm…perfection.

  28. Elise (Post author)

i agree – dark chocolate and ginger are such a wonderful combo!

  29. Elise (Post author)

nothing 🙂 just roll with it…

  30. Elise (Post author)

i refuse to label a vegan chocolate bar as unhealthy.

  31. Elise (Post author)

this is just plain old natural PB. i microwave it first though.

  32. Elise (Post author)

exactly. i have green ruts as often as i have chocolate ruts, so i think its a-ok.

  33. Ashley @ Cooking for John

Every time I buy a pint, I eat it in about 15 minutes, on the couch, in front of the tv. E.V.E.R.Y T.I.M.E.

I need to adapt your mentality! 🙂
