The raspberry festival

Lynden’s annual raspberry festival happened to fall on the same weekend that Kyle was in Vegas for his bachelor festivities.

In an effort to keep me distracted the entire time he was gone, Kyle’s parents entered me and his dad in a 5K fun run/walk.

Nothing like small town races to boost your ego!  Haha.  When I emailed this pic to my mom, she responded “That’s my girl — competitive in a "fun run." 🙂 ”

Well somebody had to win…

Kyle’s dad and I donned our new race shirts to take a post-run pic.  Then, I celebrated my blue ribbon victory with a big mug of coffee.  And eventually lunch.

One of the many perks of staying at Kyle’s parents’ house is the ample supply of Dave’s Killer Bread!  Even the Bellingham Costco now carries it.  I’m so friggin’ jealous.  Dave, please expand, I need your bread year round.

And now, some food math:

DKB + veggies + hummus

+ Yves faux turkey

I’ve been unable to find LightLife’s deli slices, so I finally resigned to trying this new brand.

It was pretty good!  And held me over for most of the afternoon, aside from some fruit and veggie grazing.

But it was the raspberry festival after all!

Locally grown and fresh from the vines.  Look who else enjoyed the berries :)

We got even more berries when we visited the festival in downtown Lynden.  By that time, we had dropped the babies off, and the three of us strolled along the “Berry Fair” Street Market watching the (12th annual) 3-on-3 basketball tournament, sampling the fresh berries, enjoying the live jazz music, and checking out the "Razz & Shine" Classic Car/Truck Cruise-In.

Basically, we soaked up everything there was, short of the "all-you-can-eat" raspberry pancake breakfast at the Lynden Community Center.

By the time we got home we were dead tired, so we set up shop on the backyard patio with some wine, and relaxed before dinner.  Dinner was another new dish, but you’ll have to wait for the next post to find out…

Congrats on your win! I think I get MORE competitive when there is a small group…less people to beat. 🙂

Also, those berries are beautiful. I want that photograph to hang in my kitchen as art.

Love the small town events, races, etc. I swear everyone knew everyone else. I was the mysterious non-local (aka the race’s dark horse). haha.
