I realize I’m ridiculously behind in blogging. Here’s a preview of what the last few days have looked like for me…
Until things settle with my crazy new (work) schedule, I am afraid blogging will be taking the back seat. Only temporarily though…
Make yourself some vegan chocolate peanut butter cups in the meantime.
On a totally different note, I recently rented The September Issue, a documentary about the making of the fall fashion issue of Vogue magazine. Seeing the behind-the-scenes shed light on not only how subjective the industry is, but also the sheer madness of it all.
[Side note: Anna Wintour is one tough b!tch]

Can you believe one woman has such reign over us all? I mean she truly sets the fashion curve on a global level. Her influence is daunting. In the film she said Sienna Miller’s cover shots were “too toothy” and Jennifer Garner looked “pregnant” in photos that I thought looked damn near gorgeous. Yikes. I wonder what kind of pressure her daughter feels?
As much as I’d love to keep up with the trendiest trends and drop thousands on designer labels, I’m not the most fashion forward person (I wear scrubs for a living). My own sister tried to nominate me for “What not to wear.” Such a sweetheart, that one…
Anyways, that’s not even what this blog (or this post!) is about, so tangent over, let me get back on track…
This year’s fall issue of Vogue broke the record with over 100 pages more than any before it – 726 pages total to be exact. That’s a whole lotta work for a single issue of a magazine. Apparently, Fall is the new January, at least in the world of fashion. Fall is when people decide a make-over is in order. Fall is when people decide to revamp their lives. Fall is when big changes happen. Hence the fatty book of fashion. Coincidently, my own life followed a similarly epic path this fall. My August, September, and October months have been jam-packed with major life changes; and I, too, have embraced the start of my new life.
Kyle and I decided to say goodbye to NYC.
We traveled up and down the West Coast.
We moved to Southern California.
And now the dust is starting to settle…
Has your Fall been one of changes? What time of year do you associate with a fresh start? New Year’s resolutions? Spring cleaning? Or is each and every day a new one, full of possibilities?
This fall I’ve been studying abroad in Spain and traveling all throughout Europe. It has been the most life-changing and gratifying experience I think I’ve ever encountered, so far. So, to answer your question, this fall has been a BIG life changer for me. Although, I usually try and start every new year on the right foot and that’s when I make little promises to myself. Not so much resolutions as much as little goals for guidance as to where I’d like my life to go. Congratulations on such a productive year!!! Sounds like a lot of fun changes to me 🙂
I saw The September Issue last year and was floored by how much of a straight bitch Anna Wintour is. I must say that she does her job flawlessly though, and if she were a man no one would even comment on her personality…
I think January is definitely my “fresh start.” It’s my birthday month, and I like the thought of having an entire year ahead of me!
oh my god i love love love love LOVE the september issue! i actually watched it 3 times just because i’m so enamored by what goes on in the fashion industry! i loved how her daughter was so realistic about her mom’s world but the movie also gave me a greater respect for anna wintour 🙂
i also LIVE for the actually september issue haha. my sister and i flip through the ads for hours and she saves them every year!
This was my last fall of going back to school as I graduate this March. We will see what I think of fall next year! I’m sure I’ll feel like I need to go back-to-school shopping regardless!
there were definitely changes this fall. i started online classes from home, got a few nannying jobs and broke up with my boyfriend. ends are never easy, but beginnings always excite me.
i’ve been wanting to see the september issue actually. and of course i am dyinggg to try my hand at making those pb cups! maybe when i’m home for christmas break 🙂
We are going to have a HUGE problem if I keep seeing these PB cups…MUST MAKE SOON.
my fall has DEFINITELY been one of change. i just got a promotion at work, and this spring i’ll be taking 12 credits in addition to my full time job! 🙂 which makes me eligible for the basketball team! totally pumped. don’t know when i’ll get to sleep, but i can do that when i’m dead, right? 😉 xo.
HA! You started upping your fashion just in time. If you head back down that grungy, baggy road…don’t think I won’t change my mind 🙂
Uh, yeah…holy changes. Your life has been a whirlwind! (Also, I used to beg my friends to nominate me for What Not to Wear…I love that show).
For me, yes, being pregnant has been fairly life altering. In a fantastic way, but still – my life is also full of changes. 🙂
It is funny you wrote about the sept issue and anna since she turned 61 today (found out via twitter…I am not obsessed…).
I interned at Harpers Bazaar a few years ago and got a taste of the high fashion editorial industry…definitely intense but it really is hard work that I think is worth it. Fashion is really an art and you can see that in the september issue with Grace Coddingtons styling.
Big changes…I just moved to LA! As a new yorker turned Detroit-er…its definitely different!
