Chef Tanya’s nachos

Way too much food for four people.    For no reason, a group of us went to Native Foods for dinner the other night. I’ve been to the Palm Springs, Costa Mesa, and Westwood locations, but not the Culver City one. I forced myself to try something new, which was hard since I love the scorpion burger and kale macro bowl a lot.   Kyle and I ordered the Nuevo Native Nachos to split…which was a blessing and a curse.   O.M.F.G.HIJKLMNOP… Fantastic.  If you go to Native Foods, I command you to order… Read more >

Hollywood, Glendale, and Larchmont [oh my]

We covered some serious ground on Laura’s last day in LA! I’m a horrible sister considering I’ve lived in LA for over 6 years (four in college and two currently) and never taken her to see the touristy sights. We started at the Chinese Theatre.  She saw the stars…and some other characters…and quickly realized why I avoided that part of the city.   For lunch we headed over to Mendocino Farms, a place I’ve been meaning to try for a while.    I’m so lame when it comes to leaving the Westside.  I fully admit… Read more >

Dream life

My dream life would consist of waking up, cooking and baking to my heart’s content, hanging out with my family and friends all day, exploring new and familiar neighborhoods in LA, eating at my favorite spots while trying new places, and having big family style meals a few nights a week at our new place. This is basically what I did these past few days.  I wish it didn’t have to end.   I woke up Monday morning and immediately began baking Kyle’s birthday treat.  He requested chocolate brownies, so that’s what I made. After… Read more >

Phoning it in

Weekend by iPhone.  Ready, go! Saturday I had an open faced breakfast sando with avocado and two fried eggs. Then Kyle’s parents came over and we went to Hollywood. We had tickets to see Jerry Seinfeld do stand-up at the Pantages theatre. So excited!! We parked at Hollywood & Highlands and walked to get an early dinner at Tender Greens.  It wasn’t [yet] rainy, but it was cold and windy, so I was definitely ready for something warm. Tea 🙂   I got the Happy Vegan (as per usual) with a side of roasted brussels,… Read more >

Monday & Macaroons

Kyle and I celebrated our Valentine’s Day early.  We just used the holiday as an excuse to hit up a restaurant that’s been on our mind for a while.   Akasha is one of those places that has a menu for true foodies.  It’s based around fresh, seasonal, and local ingredients – with vegetable quinoa listed next to Niman Ranch beef burgers.  I love a diverse menu packed with yummy quality ingredients. Ok, before I get ahead of myself, I have to show you what my poor husband has to deal with on a daily… Read more >
