Really you don’t need a slow cooker to make this. I just used mine because I wanted to have the option to leave the house…you know just in case I felt like going on a run or doing something active (hahahaha!). I felt ridiculous even as I typed that…the end of this pregnancy has turned me into a sloth. Oh how I long for the feeling of an elevated heart rate (that’s not from simply walking up a flight of stairs). I digress… This corn chowder was something I threw together with fridge scraps. … Read more >

Whole wheat bread in the breadmaker is easy. It’s effortless. It turns out every time. Gluten free baking is so much harder. There are a million different variables. And even after reading countless blogs and baking books, I still understand barely a fraction of it all. But look! A successful loaf that doesn’t involve bean flours. [Background info: My only really successful gluten free loaves have all included bean flours. However, my GI tract likes bean flour about as much as it likes wheat. Less, in fact. Look what Mr. Savory requested for breakfast! Kyle was really proud of his idea for trail mix pancakes. He wants full credit for this breakfast concept (even though I made them), so if you’ve seen these before just keep it to yourself. 😉 I made the batter the night before (leaving the trail mix out) and in the morning breakfast was pretty much ready to go. Trail Mix Pancakes [yields ~10-14 small pancakes] Ingredients: 1 1/2 cup all purpose flour 1 tbsp baking powder 2 tbsp sugar 1/2 tsp salt 1 1/4 cup almond milk… Read more >
