Third year cookies

I rarely keep more than one dessert in the house because…well…because it’s dangerous.  Ok, I ALWAYS have dark chocolate, but that doesn’t count because that’s just common sense a pantry staple.   Anyway, despite the fact that I still had a slice of GF vegan chocolate cake left from our weekend in SF, I was in the mood to make some cookies yesterday.  For Kyle (that’s what I told myself).  Because he could use a little fattening up.  Of course my baked treats are usually on the healthier end of the spectrum, so fattening… Read more >

Savory Tomato & Millet Pie

I’m not sure anyone will want to replicate this dish, but here’s what I did, in case you want to tweak it to improve upon it.  For the record, I usually don’t post iffy recipes, but this was still yummy, so I’m doing it anyway.  Just note the errors I made along the way and how you can possibly prevent them.    Starting with the crust. Are you kidding me Immaculate Baking Co??  I followed the directions for using their pie crusts to a “t” and as you can see from the above, I… Read more >

Blueberry Chocolate Chia Pudding

Since summer is berry season, I’ve been unable to hold back when I see cartons of them for super cheap at the farmer’s market.  It’s getting to be a problem.  But honestly, they’re so bright and beautiful!  So I have been freezing lots of them so I can have fresh organic summer berries year round.  Even though I’m front loading the cost now, I’m pretty sure it’ll end up being cheaper than buying frozen organic fruit in winter.  Plus this fruit is at it’s height of ripeness.  You can’t get that in the freezer aisle…. Caramel studded oatmeal blondie bars

Uhhh yeah, long name, I know.    But I actually held back because they could have been called a million other things…like lovely gooey bites…or gluten free breakfast squares…or deliciously sweet snack bars…you get the idea, right?    I have a lot of photos of P man-handling these candies because they’ve been on the counter (hashtag dangerous) for a while now.  He loves playing with the bag because it makes noise and his pudgy little fingers can perfectly grasp and shake it.    And yet, we all know how bad terrible of an idea it… Read more >

Beyond Bacon

Kids, I think it’s safe to say I have turned into a (vegan) bacon-aholic. First there was coconut bacon.  Then I did the tempeh thing.  And now I’m on to eggplant.  If I haven’t convinced you to invest in liquid smoke yet, what the what are you waiting for?  [As much as I hate ending the sentence in a preposition, it doesn’t have the same punch when written grammatically correct.  Cool?] The tempeh was so good I made a double batch within the week.  Kyle still hasn’t tasted it.  I’m a pig.  <— bacon pun… Read more >
