Toddler cookies

My almost two year old just had his first real cookie.  And he was a BIG FAN.  No shock there. For some reason I told him I’d bake cookies while he was napping and he could have one once he woke up…who knows what got into me…I was feeling soft since it’s the weekend…but we’ve been doing some (pediatrician allergist approved) experimenting with allergens and I figured what kid doesn’t want to try a real cookie.  With real butter. To back up.  P is allergic to dairy.  We had it confirmed via a blood test… Read more >

Gluten free natural dye play doh

First off, look at this picture: That’s my attempt to make a rainbow of colors.  Do you see blue?  Green?  Purple?  Anything remotely out of the red color spectrum?  That’s what I thought.  But I couldn’t find a decent food dye that didn’t have weird chemicals or scary crap…so I went with India Tree dyes and hoped for the best.  Turns out, the red and yellow are awesome, but the blue doesn’t work. Anyway, the play doh was easy and has lasted over a month without any real special care, so I thought I’d share… Read more >

Allergy friendly chia dried fruit bars

I’ve previously mentioned TJs dried fruit bars because they are a relatively healthy on-the-go option for kiddos with allergies (the only ingredients are dried fruit).  I don’t love the amount of sugar in them, but since that’s my only issue, I’m cool with it.  However, every time I buy one (at 99 cents per bar) I think in my head how easy they would be to make.  The only ingredients are literally dried apples + dried _______ (whatever the flavor was – coconut, banana, strawberry, mango, etc).  They continue to make more flavors which has been nice.  Variety… Read more >

Allergy friendly baked French toast

This was our Christmas day breakfast spread.  Yummmm…I want it all again now that I’m seeing it here. I promised to share the recipe for the baked french toast because it was allergen free (except for eggs) and delicious (according to my family at least), so here it is. Bonus: It can be made ahead of time so you can focus on hanging out with company while still serving an awesome breakfast! I found these Udi’s French Baguettes in the freezer section at Whole Foods, but I know they are carried elsewhere.  There are other brands… Read more >

Toddler food ideas and tricks

I could write for forever and ever (bragging) about my son, but I’ve deliberately tried to keep things to a minimum on HHH because (a) it’s not usually helpful for other parents to hear about what milestones various kids have reached at what age because the comparison trap for parents is probably the worst kind in existence (to which I don’t want to contribute) and (b) many readers don’t have kids and probably don’t care about my little mister’s stuff.  And if I’m being perfectly honest there’s a third factor (c) which is the obvious issue of… Read more >
