Toddler meal updates

I haven’t shared much in the kiddo food department in a while and that’s mostly because not much has changed. He prefers mainly carbs to start the day, which is odd since he used to LIVE and DIE for eggs.  Now he’s over the eggs.  Whatever.  He alternates between home-made quick breads, waffles, pancakes, donuts, and oatmeal.  All with a bunch of fruit (usually blueberries or grapes).  And bear in mind this is after his pre-breakfast snack of apple slices.  And then typically sunflower and pumpkin seeds until he’s full. GF pancakes with coconut flour, GF all… Read more >

Baby donuts

Calm down, I’m not feeding my two year old son donuts.  But he doesn’t know that. As it turns out, toddlers like eating things in fun new shapes, even if it’s the same batter as every other thing I bake!  Ha! To be fair, it’s not actually the same batter as the other breakfast stuff he eats, but the ingredients aren’t that different (they’re still plenty healthy), so it’s an easy option for me to offer him and a win that he is obsessed.  As you’ll soon see, they are super simple. The batter makes 6… Read more >

Allergy friendly baby/toddler products

First things first – a heads up.  How products are packaged can change!  We used to buy these dried cranberries and evidently the co-packing and/or facility from where they are sourced is no longer the same!  READ LABELS EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU BUY A PRODUCT!! Second, since sharing this link (about a new study that tested the efficacy of a probiotic in the treatment of peanut allergies), I have spoke with my son’s pediatrician and started us both on this probiotic.  I find research like this so interesting and promising and even if it doesn’t change anything… Read more >

Allergy friendly cupcakes for three

I didn’t end up making these for my little dude’s birthday party because I ran out of time and used an allergy free baking mix instead (Cherrybrook Kitchen), but they were great and P loved them so I figured I should share.  If you multiply the recipe by 4 you would have a dozen allergy-friendly-not-too-sweet-but-delicious-and-fluffy-vanilla-flavored muffins.  And if you add frosting they become cupcakes, so there you go. Allergy friendly cupcakes (for three) [gluten free, dairy free, soy free, nut free] Ingredients: 1 egg 2 tbsp sugar 2 tbsp canola oil 1/2 tsp vanilla 1/4 cup… Read more >

Dairy trials

A while ago I mentioned I got our allergist’s blessing to do some at home trials with P’s allergens.  For a variety of reasons I was optimistic that it would go well…First off, he was tested way back when he was 9 months old and so much time has passed.  But even more importantly, he had never actually consumed several of the foods he tested positive to so how do we know the blood tests were even accurate.  False positives and negatives are common and there’s also a large scale of immune responses so I didn’t… Read more >
