Is there anything more mundane than pitting cherries?

IMG_8908

It has got to be one of the worst tasks on the planet.  Aside from peeling the skins off chickpeas.  If you can think of a more tedious chore, please share.

The reward is so worth it, though.

Is there anything more mundane than pitting cherries? = No, there’s not. Which is why cherries are an adults-only food b/c I just dont have the time to de-pit them for little mouths πŸ™‚

Do you have one of those cool cherry pitters? I don’t and I wonder if that would make the task less tedious. As it is, I usually slice around the pit and scrape it out, like an avocado. Translation: takes an eternity.

I have used the cherry pitter once – it was quick and quite convenient, but considering that the cherry season is quite short and I donΒ΄t often end up piting hundreds of cherries either, I think the machine would be only another “dust-catcher” at the end πŸ™‚

I feel like such a dork for actually liking those tasks! Pitting cherries (with a cherry pitter!), cleaning, folding laundry… I love it. And the outcome is always worth it!

I haven’t had cherries since my obsession last year…I definitely pitted enough to last the rest of my life πŸ˜› I buy the frozen already pitted kind when I can, though πŸ˜‰

  15. Kat

Haha, I just don’t pit them πŸ˜‰ It’s quicker and I simply keep a napkin next to my food where the pits go πŸ˜€

Ah, I remember two summers ago we would buy cherries all the time and I would have them every day for breakfast in a yogurt mess… but it would take me like half an hour to pit them all! I kept thinking it would just be easier to leave them all whole and spit out the pits watermelon seed-style.

i pitted a bunch of cherries a few weeks ago for a salad. took forever!

I hate de-seeding pomegranates. Plus I always seem to be wearing white when doing it! :S
    That looks delicious!

Your blog is killing me these days! I’m away from home for a full month at a music festival, living in a dorm room and subsisting on pretzels, larabars, granola bars, and apples. At least there’s a Chipotle around the corner! But still… I am dying to make all the yummy things you keep posting. πŸ™‚

Cherries are SO worth the work! I haven’t been able to enjoy them much this year because apparently CA is having a bad cherry season? I am drooling over yours…they look soooooooooooo good!
