Sweet tooth cravings

This weather is truly fantastic, I’m so glad I don’t work again for a few days.

Thursday was a pretty exciting work day thanks to my patient with blood glucose levels vacillating between 480 and 37.  The twelve hours flew by so quickly I hardly found time to eat everything I packed.

Kinda in love with these organic dried mangos.  I used to snack on them all the time, but then I forgot about them.  My sweet tooth is very much into dried fruit, and even though the mango looks like raw cattle hide, it tastes like dessert.

So a few made their way into my lunch.  Natch.

Along with fresh fruit galore.  Banana.  Pear.  Apple.

There was a mini-emergency when I realized this (non-gala) was the last apple in the casa.  I hate not having any back-up resources.  An apple-less house is my version of hell.

In other fruity news, this pear was the best damn thing.  I hate buying pears because it’s hard to catch them at their peak.  And I can never tell when they are ripe either.  I just happened to luck out with this one.  It was juicay

The banana on the other hand was well past it’s prime, but I prefer them on the spotted and brown side.  And at least with nanners you can tell exactly what stage of life they are in.  This baby was prime oat mashing material.  Banana meet oats.  Hi oats!

An OG oatmeal mix of coconut and dried cranberries.  Simple is sometimes best.

I’m sure you recognize home-made trail mix by now, yes?

You may ever recall these chewy bars?  I have been making my way through them slowly but surely.  They keep really well in the freezer!  I simply take a couple out before each week and put them in the fridge to thaw.  Then I grab ‘em as needed.

The rice cooker probably can’t remember the last time it actually cooked rice.  This time around I opted for millet – a little break from quinoa.

Big salad!  Spinach, bell peppers, carrots, cauliflower, millet, and raisins.

The whole team together.

As a special treat (no occasion needed in my book), Kyle and I hit up Whole Foods for din din.

I’ve seen this a few times in the prepared foods section and finally decided to try it out.  It’s by Healthy Times, the company that makes the seitan that I love love love.  So I figured they are one for one, might as well give round two a go.

The sesame seed bun was fine (nothing special), but the lentil based burger was goooood.

Texture – win.

Flavor – win.

Ingredients – win.

After dinner I trashed my bod with the following.

:(  They were so good, but I felt like ca-ca after.  That’s a dark chocolate caramel malt ball in the middle by the way.  It had 10 brothers prior to this photo.

I also polished off a few (ok, 4) more bowls similar to this.  My late night sweet tooth is a force to be reckoned with.  Yikes!  I plan on being a little cleaner with my eats for the next few days hours to help my poor GI system get back to some normalcy.

I have never tried the WFs dried mango. TJ’s *can* be amazing. Some batches of it are amazing, dried to perfection. Other batches are so over-dried that they literally crack and break, rather than “rip” like leather.

the weather IS gorgeous, isnt it! I am working like a maniac but still trying to enjoy it!

I’ve found that when it comes to prepackaged meals, the bread is never that good. The innards sound delicious though! And I haven’t had a malt ball in ages….those things are legit crack in my hands though.

Every once in a while I’ll splurge on the “Maverick” pears from Harry & David because, even though they’re considered seconds – like not totally perfect, they are delicious every time. Then I beg forgiveness for the shipping and packaging. 🙂

Dried mango is my favorite dried fruit next to figs! I have the same problem with pears. I feel like it’s a gamble every time I pick one up at the store. Have you tried red pears? I’ve been getting them lately and so far have not had one that was not perfectly sweet and juicy!

That veg burger looks delish…and HUGE!

I hate it when I get the late-night sweet tooth! I always end up nursing some ginger tea afterwards!

When I woke up, the actual air temp–the ACTUAL air temp w/o wind chill–was negative 16. As in, 16 below zero. Fabulous weather you say?? Can I come visit?!?!?
