Spanish seitan sighting

Happy to report Madrid has the goods…

More details later, but for now, Al Natural is located on Calle Zorrilla, 11 and I’d recommend getting reservations if you’re going for a normal (European) timed dinner.  We went at 9 and it was hard to get in (to be fair, we are a party of five).

I got seitan and it was amazing.  First time I’ve been crazy full in Espana thus far.  There were SO many things on the menu I wanted, and my family was all equally impressed (they have pasta, dairy, and chicken dishes too).  We are definitely going back again this coming week (yes, it was that good).

I promise more thorough reviews will be coming.  I’m taking diligent notes and mega megabites of photos.

I’m from Madrid, so maybe I can give you some tips 🙂

I’ve never been to Al Natural but there are some other places you might like and where you can eat seitan:

El Vergel ( http://www.el-vergel.com/), I used to go there almost everyweek 🙂 And almost always ordered the “Escalopines de Seitan”.

Viva la Vida, in La Latina thebigger one, in Huertas a smaller one.You pay for the weight of the food you take on your plate from the buffet.

    Yerbabuena (http://www.yerbabuena.ws/)

    La isla del tesoro (http://www.isladeltesoro.net/)

    Ecocentro (http://www.ecocentro.es/)

Maoz (we all now the falafel)

Loving Hut (I actually didn’t like it that much when I went there)

And some more….or some restaurants with veggie options, as the Home Burger, and so on 🙂

One doesn’t really have to rely only on french fries and cheese as the vegetarian options, but by the way, they might be really good options of those: Patatas bravas, patatas al ajillo….. and also all the spanish cheese, but hey tortilla de patatas, padron peppers, mushrooms…..

And also churros and Barquillos as a sweeet treat, should be vegan, but the ones with milk chocolate or cream (because the real churros in Spain usually don’t have any milk or eggs as I have been reading around a couple of blogs). Buy a Barquillo in Madrid from one of the guys selling them on the streets, it’s typical. And now it’s San Isidro, the feast of Madrid.

I just wanted to point out there are great options to eat vegetarian and even vegan while being in Madrid 🙂 And I hope you enjoy your stay there. It’s a wonderful city, but hey! I’m a girl from Madrid who misses it a lot since she move to another country …..

if you are in madrid, and it is still open (FINGERS CROSSED THAT IT IS) you MUST MUST MUST go to isla del tesoro!!!

i studied abroad in madrid during college and living there as a vegetarian was challenging.. until this restaurant. where i then went every week. elise you will not be disappointed. i dream about this restaurant. i highly recommend instead of going to al natural again, you go here. just found the website, too. check out out: http://www.isladeltesoro.net/

Al Natural! MOST. DELICIOUS. RESTAURANT. IN. SPAIN!!! I honestly was not a fan of Spanish food (in Barcelona, Madrid, San Sebastian…), but I did happen to find that place while visiting Madrid and absolutely looooved it!

Of course we’d both end up there 🙂

And that seitan dish was my second choice!! I ended up going for something with tofu (it was cheaper), but still amazing!!
