Smoothie weather

If you didn’t know by my excessive whining every winter, I am a total wuss. And anything below 40 degrees is NOT ok by me.

So why in the world am I suddenly craving smoothies for breakfast in December and January?? Who knows. Nonetheless, smoothies have been the name of the game.

I kinda stopped using protein powder a while ago because I didn’t really find it necessary (I don’t think I lack protein in my diet, especially since I’m no longer vegan). In the past I’ve stuck with Vega, because it’s a brand I know and trust and it tastes good. A while back I was sent this Elite Protein sample to try, though, so I gave it a whirl (blender pun heyoooo).

Thumbs up from me! It is pea protein based, which doesn’t upset my gut and has tons of nutritious ingredients, like hemp protein and chia seeds.

I definitely eat enough cruciferous foods that I don’t need to supplement my smoothie with kale, broccoli, and cabbage, but maybe that’s good for some. You couldn’t taste it anyway. Not that I mind a “green” smoothie every once in a while, but I do appreciate the vanilla and chocolate flavors for what they are (milk shakes without the milk or the shake). πŸ˜›

I only had a few samples, so I am back on Vega now, but I could see this being a new option once my tub runs out.

Do you use protein powders in your smoothies? What kinds do you use?

PS Now I have to drink my coffee afterwards to warm myself back up!

I love the texture and flavor of bananas so that’s always an ingredient I add. After that it’s kinda all up in the air, but usually some other kind of fruit (strawberries/blueberries) and either almond or coconut milk. Lately I’ve been adding frozen beets too! I get so many in my CSA, so I chopped them, steamed them and stored them in the freezer for smoothies. You can’t even taste them, so it’s kinda like bonus nutrients!!
