Babycakes has competition!
I was quite pleased (understatement) when I discovered a vegan patisserie in Sevilla.
It kinda made my trip. I was like a kid in a candy store (or a vegan in a vegan bakery).
See?! Not only was it nearly impossible for me to contain my excitement, but I was having a really hard time choosing which treat to order!
I could barely narrow my selection down to two items.
In the end I got a blackberry cupcake and a chocolate muffin (for the road).
Typically, I’m not even a cupcake girl, and frosting isn’t my sweet of choice, but when such a novel item is available when you are thousands of miles away from home, you feel obligated to indulge. And so I did.
Nevermind that this was breakfast.
The frosting was light and fluffy, more like thick cool whip than frosting. And it was not very sweet either, which made eating the whole thing easy. The cake was average (more bread like, not very moist) and nothing to write home about, but at the bottom there was a surprise yellow custard thing that made me completely change my opinion. Love.
My mom got a chocolate custard heart thing which we think was mousse filled (not entirely sure of the translation of baked goods).
The whole family shared it, and although nobody was especially keen on the texture, I didn’t mind it. It was more gelatin than mousse in my opinion. Flavor wise reminded me of Jell-O pudding packs.
My dad got a cinnamon and banana muffin.
He finished it in under 20 seconds (no exaggeration). I think he liked it. The breading part appeared to be softer and not as dry as my cupcake. [Jealous]
Laura got a chocolate muffin, which was not too rich (but still basically just a cupcake without frosting).
Marie and I both got the same one for the road… After all, you never know when you may need a vegan pastry again, right?
For those who enjoy vegan and/or gluten free pastries, I highly recommend Veganitessen.
They are located in the Mercado del Arenal, an indoor marketplace with tons of stands offering everything from fish to produce to candy and dried fruits/nuts.
We went early in the morning, so there weren’t many people and only a few places were open.
When you walk in the entrance, Veganitessen is straight ahead in the first row on the left.
They are open Tues – Saturday from 9:30 am – 3:00 pm (and ‘til 7 pm on Thursdays)

I love that you got the pink cupcake, I would have gotten that too! I bought these ginger chews because you said how much you like ginger and I love them! Thanks! http://www.gingerpeople.com/ginger-chews.html
Wow! Wonderful photos and what a great treat (pun intended) to find on your trip. Those treats look out of this world.
This place was bookmarked after your first mention! Seville has yet to explored. I will plan a trip if only for this bakery. The vegans in Spain must be supported! Thank you for finding such a gem 🙂
Ahhhh I’m so jealous!!! I wanted to go there so bad, but our cab driver told us that all of the vegan restaurants I had starred on my map were too far out of the way from the cathedral, etc…. so glad you got to enjoy it though!!
It’s been so fun reading your Spain posts since getting back…. funny that both of us too weeks/months to post about our trips haha 🙂

How fun! I’ve never been to a totally vegan bakery, though a coffee shop here in town makes some really delicious dairy-free treats. And you’re rockin’ another adorable dress here! 🙂
