I can hardly keep my eyes open. Red-eye flights kinda suck, huh. But I guess all flights kinda suck. No matta, I’m back in the NYCizzle. I miss home already, but look at all the goodies I came home to!!!
Let birthday week begin!!
The first package was full of Averie’s raw vegan macaroons and donut holes, which smelled SO dang heavenly, I waited all of 5 seconds before digging into them.
Oh, wow. I’m pretty jealous of her taste tester daughter – someone get this girl her own bakery. The macaroons were coconutty and sweet and crumbled in my mouth. I had to practice MAYJ self restraint to prevent myself from polishing them all off in one sitting.
The second package was from my pen pal email buddy Courtney. I swear, she knows me better than anyone (myself included). I mean, are these not just the quintessential hippie eats? HUMMUS CHIPS!?! My heart skipped a beat at the sight of them.
Clif bars, Larabars, MoJo bars, dried mango, papaya, pears, figs, and chocolate nut/crispy chews…I felt like I either died and went to heaven or I was dreaming.
And as if those packages weren’t enough, I ALSO got some fun blog awards. I would like to thank my UWS neighbor Gena for giving me the perfect post-flight veg-on-the-couch activity.

Next up:
The Kreativ Blogger Award which is spelled rather creatively, too, asks me to share 7 random things about myself. Hmmm…I’ll have to get back to you on this one, my brain isn’t quite up to such involved tasks yet.
In the meantime, I shall pass this on to a few wonderful bloggers (although I’m fairly certain this one has already made the rounds).
1. Kailey – because who doesn’t love a Snackface
2. Lara – because she’s always keeping it real and Thinspired
3. Sarah – because her Foodie Diaries make me drool every day
4. Ada – because she’s my neighb and a true college-gal
5. Julie – because she needs a boost after her Jets’ Sunday performance
After I unpacked (yes, I HAVE to unpack before I do anything else), I changed into my PJs and face a$$ planted into the couch.
Check out my Costco buys from home.
A box of assorted flavored Z bars (24/$10) and 2 flavors of Benefiber packets (32/$7). Score!!
Being the creature of habit that I am, I started the day like any other (aside from the fact that I got a measly 4 hours of airplane sleep)…with COFFEE.
I had a few more of Averie’s macaroons with my caffeine, and that buzz kept me going until lunch(ish) time. It was slim pickins’ in the apartment, so I soaked (and drained) some Arame, while chopping other salad ingreds.
This lunch was, for lack of a better word, random. On the salad was spinach, steamed broccoli, raw carrots, and Arame seaweed.
In addition to that, I heated up a Boca vegan burger, and then crumbled it on top.
It was far better than I thought it would be. I had to give myself a bit of a pat on the back for managing to create something out of nothing. A very Top Chef moment for me.
The combo of my lunch’s food coma effect and my lack of sleep caught up to me in the afternoon and I dozed in and out of consciousness for a few hours. I then made the insane decision to go work out, which lasted 6 minutes. I decided to go to the grocery store instead. I don’t actually remember this trip, so I think it’s safe to say I was sleep walking at this point.
Evidently, I picked up some fruit.
Kyle and I reunited (and it felt so good…) for dinner after 6 looong days apart. I wasn’t really hungry, but Whole Foods’ hot bar makes me drool regardless of my appetite.
Unable to decide which of the FOUR different tofu dishes to try, I opted for a sample hefty serving of each, including sesame seed tofu, BBQ tofu, Mediterranean tofu, and balsamic tofu.
Yeahhhhh. Ladies and gents, THIS is what $16 of SOY looks like.
My eyes were WAY bigger than my estomago and I only had half of the above ‘fu-fest.
On the way home I got a text from my fellow (temporary) UWS-er Ellie informing me I was about to be the lucky recipient of some delish vegan dishes.
Well, color me effing amazed. Ummm, I offish have enough soy in the casa to last me a decade week. THANKS LOVE!
I’m pretty sure I got more packages/presents in the last 24 hours than I got for my entire birthday last year (not really, Kyle showers me with gifts 24/7).
I wonder what I will pack for my work lunch tomorrow…
Yay! Enjoy all your goods! 😀 The macaroons are amazing…mine lasted about 3 hours.
Haha. I felt like a mafia mobster lurking in Starbucks with a brown paper bag waiting for a text with the drop-off point. The One Stop products are amaaaazing. Worth me moving back to NY for (and knock my power-fu OFF the radar!)
Welcome back, you! Red eyes are the worst… I used to take them all the time from MN to NY to max out my Ari-time on weekends during college.
I have never had ANY of those tofu flavors! Well, they always seem to have BBQ, but otherwise it’s always just baked. Must be the UWS sweetspot. Speaking of which. I know you have some busy times coming up what with your birthday and all, but yes, I would love to play again! I can’t remember if I’ve already said that… things get a little hazy at bedtime, if ya know what I mean…
Whoa baby! You got HOOOKED UP! When is your birthday? Happy early birthday regardless! Hummus chips – get in my belly now.
I once had a 6am flight, but never slept the night before. Does that count as a red-eye?
LOVE all these packages! They are bountiful and have everything a hungry hippie could ever want…foodwise. And you just made me supah pumped to go to Whole Foods this weekend.
THANK YOU!!! For the award! That’s too darn sweet! xoxo
Mmmmm just look at all those goodies!! Hopefully they’ll provide the sustenance you need to bounce back from the god awful flight!
I just creeped on you on facebook haha literally as I read this I wanted to know that your birthday was indeed this week. FRIDAY!? and you ALREADY have the presents flowing in like no other. tres special.
UM this award did lift my mood. thank you oh so much because the guys on the radio won’t leave my main man alone. you win some…you lose..alot. atleast the spanks are still in it.
a blogger date is c’est neccessaire soon!
Agreeeed that blogland’s most fabulous vegan yogi needs to open a bakery. That woman makes me want to be vegan. And a yogi (BTW, the athletic yoga class was in Bay Ridge, Bklyn–where I reside… but I wouldn’t recommend it… We should find some crazy yoga class en la ciudad and go make fools of ourselves together.)
Gracias for the award! I hardcore cheesed when I saw my name. I am eagerly awaiting your 7 thangs, although I thoroughly enjoyed your one worders–especially “ayer”… um it took me a few seconds to realize you were throwing in some espanol. Baaad.
And lastly WF tofu!!!! So worth the dinero… the sesame one is my fave. They used to have these AMAZINGGGGG sesame tofu BALLS at the WF in Chelsea–like they just tasted 29382932 times better than the hot bar tofu, probs bc they were balls–but I think they discontinued them bc I haven;t seen them in 2 years. MUY TRISTE.
ok longest comment evahhh. buenos noches, dear.
Holy packages!!! Your postman probably thinks you are dealing drugs 🙂 And by drugs, I mean hummus.
Sweet Costco scores! Lovin all that tofu action–so much goodness in ONE box!
HUMMUS CHIPS!? You hit the jackpot!

Thanks for the shoutouts sweet Elise! I am so happy the macaroons 1. Made it to NYC and the post offfice didnt raid the box looking for contraband or anything. And that 2. They lasted cuz I know you’ve been sportin your fine self in Cali for a half a week so you know, freshness speaking and all, looks like they hung in there. Yay!
I really actually could live on 1. coffee and 2. my own raw vegan baked goods so I am mighty happy to see you with coffee and my raw vegan baked goods. There are days when I really just feel like skipping everything else but I dont.
Arame. I give you props, I am not a fan of the sea veggies at all. Dulse or arame are the 2 I have had, and well nori, if that counts. Glad you’re getting your trace minerals and iodine 🙂
xoxox
Holy man girl you got tons of nice prezzies this week! Love the whole foods tofu mix as well. Hummus chips those a must try! Let me know how they are!
Yay–thanks for thinking of me chica 🙂 So, if you want to be in CA in 6 years and I want to be in CA in 6 years, I guess that means we will at least get a meet-up eventually! 😉
Nice work on all those goodies–I spy some Cliff bars!
Horray for wonderful packages in the mail! Averie sent me some of the same stuff and it was ALL gone within 5 minutes! :0
Loved reading more about you in the survey!!! xo
I am glad the package was waiting for you and I hope you like everything in it 🙂 You will have to let me know how the hummus chips are…
HOW did you get that Costco stuff home with you?! Did you take an empty suitcase or pack no clothes or what?! Very impressive packing skills!
It sounds like you are having a birthday WEEK, which I think it totally appropriate…birthdays are meant to last 🙂
Courtney
Someone once told me that random salads turn out okay… ring a bell? ;p
<3 <3
I have to unpack the second I get home from anywhere – it drives me crazy if I don’t!
Love all that wonderful (and free!) food. How great is this community?
I’ve always wondered about arame, I don’t think I’ve been able to find it anywhere though. Not that I’ve been searching that hard….
I need a boost after the Jet’s performance too 🙁 How horrible was that??
Happy Birthday week!
Holy ‘Fu-Fest 2009! I hardly ever have tofu and you’re making even me crave it! Speaking of which, methinks a Joya date is in order? Word.
one word…jealous! Perhaps birthdays are supposed to get better and better each year post your 21st afterall? Everything up there looked delicious! E, don’t forget to exercise moderation with all that soy. =)
p.s. my mama actually asked about you this morning as she was rinsing a ziplock bag to reuse for a 5th time! I know it’s not like your crazy 78bajillion uses, but slowly we are in the process of being and staying green. besos!
Aww thanks for the award, you’re too sweet:)
Umm hummus chips? How perfect is that!

dude, im so crafty. i brought home a suitcase 1/3 full (fully anticipating costco trips), so i had AMPLE room for purchases on the return…
hahaha…ok, ok.
i bought it a while ago, and its been sitting in the cupboard waiting patiently for me to grow a pair. well, that day never came, but since the rest of the shelves were empty, i was forced to go with it…now im obsessed!!
um, yes, this community is far too kind for words. love it.
yes. definitely. ill email you with november dates. can you do week days, or are weekends easier/better for you?
