I didn’t realize (raw) Wednesday had arrived (already?!) until I was making my lunch last night. I guess that’s what happens when your schedule is completely random.
So this is what I packed to eat…but I wasn’t really feeling it.
…so THIS is what I actually ate!
I heart this place. There’s one in Union Square (easy walking distance from where I work).
My ravenous appetite was STILL in full force today, so I polished off the apple and odwalla bar by 9 am…meaning by the time I got off the unit for my lunch break, I was ready to get my grub on.
Even though the weather was looking gloomy and rain was only a drip drop away, I had falafel on the brain. You know how it is when you become OBSESSED with the idea of having a certain thing for lunch and suddenly there is no obstacle too great to prevent you from getting it!? That’s how I felt about Maoz.
I got hummus and falafel with pita. Mmmmm…
Not one to waste food – I had my RAW salad, too.
I got off work on time and bolted home, where I had a nice (mostly) pre-made dinner all ready and waiting for me 🙂
If I don’t pre-assemble things before I work, I’ll come home ravenous and end up pounding half a loaf of bread, rather than put together a real meal.
I had loaded the tuperware up with was veggies (mushrooms, bell peppers, tomatoes, and spinach) and BBQ tempeh, drizzled in Country Bob’s All Purpose sauce…
So all I had to do when I got home was throw in HALF an avocado…and some hummus (you didn’t think I could go a meal without it, did you)!?
I finished off my home-made hummus, but never fear, I had a fresh new tub of Sabra ready and waiting for me 🙂
Sabra love with an English muffin (yes, K, they are Thomas’) and the weirdest shaped carrot. Mmmm!
This meal was SoOoOo good!
I have given up on the no-snacking after dinner part of the Whole Life Challenge. So here come the dessert pics!
Wouldn’t be dessert without carob chips and dried fruit!
Back to packing up for tomorrow. Anything you guys do to prepare for the day (food-wise) that helps you save time – or reduces the likelihood that you’ll opt for “less healthy” options)?
could your eats be any more delish?! my mouth is watering over here!! tempeh, falafel, avocado, hummus! sheesssh
I agree with G.C. YUM! The falafel and brand new container of hummus, the dates and carob chips…all of it looks great!
that place looks fan-freaking-tastic. uhh I miiight have to try it some day.
Haha I know about the no obstacle course..like the time you accidently ran over a bird because you were so hungry that you raced home like a madwoman to eat lunch? oh wait yeah that’s me. today.
human fail.
Yeah, I gave it up too, lol 😛
After coming home quite hungry for lunch today when my class got out at 2pm, I’ve decided I’m going to start making my lunch and leaving it in the fridge before I leave in the morning. That way, all I have to do when I walk in the door is EAT! 🙂
Oh dzayum I am back again to comment!! Why can’t I focus??? Maybs because you threw a beautiful tub of Sabra in my face along with an avocado. You b!tch! JAYKAY JAYKAY! I needed that pornography in my mind to endorse my endorphins to get me all happy and sh!t about my finals.
I am currently eating half a bag of chocolate chips and it is in honor of my stress and your carob loving self.
ooh is that vegetarian place near union square park in nyc??? i’ll be living right on the park this summer and might have to check that place out 🙂 have a good day!
that salad looks amazing!
oh psych nursing and marital therapy are where it’s at!
but i really do miss putting IVs in… i check out people’s veins in the subway… normal?
I totally blew Raw Wednesday too. Oh well. I’m over it.
That carrot looks like a really long leg in a high heel. It must have been a beyotch to peel!
Mmm that salad looks phenom!
So i’ve been munching away on these fantastic medjool dates recently (as you’ve seen)….except I just realized that the box says the expiration date was uh….FOUR DAYS AGO!!!!! They taste fine to me!! Should I be worried?!! Hahaha…..
And YES! I know exactly what you mean by having that ONE food on the brain and needing it at your next meal. If I decide that I’m craving avocado I will search high and low (in my brain….and on blogs) to figure out what will taste the most deeeelish with it.
Ohhh….warm, doughy pita w/ hummus and falafel….YUM.
I try to wash and prep my fruit and veggies right when I get them home from the store, thus making them more convenient to grab than other less-healthy choices! But I want to start planning my meals more because I think that would really help impulsive eating!
That veggie place looks cool. There aren’t many vegetarian places (that I have found anyway) here in England 🙁 They like their meat!
Way to go with honoring your craving! Your lunch sounded delicious! Good luck packing and take lots of snacks (bars, trail mixes) with you!
Just the other night around 8:30 I ended up going from the gym to the grocery store in the pouring rain not because I didn’t have any food at home to eat (never an issue), but because I had a wicked craving to eat an avocado with my snack and had used the last one up at lunch. I knew I had to have it, otherwise nothing else would have satisfied me.
As for prep, I’m a planner so I always have things ready for supper when I get home. I steam a bunch of brown rice to keep in my fridge, always have tofu, beans, etc. at the ready, etc. so that when I get home I just throw all that with some veggies in a pan and have a big bowl of deliciousness is under 15 mins. Same for salads and sandwiches.
I need to try me out some of them thare madjool dates!
Yet ANOTHER reason why I need to visit NYC – that restaurant sounds fantastic!
Haha is it sad that I can spy what brand English muffins people eat? You need some Aunt Millie’s in your life!! Maybe I’ll send you a WAY overdue engagement gift.
I don’t preplan my meals which is obvious because I end up eating the same things over and over – all my eats take like 3 minutes max to make. I need to start cooking!
The worst is when you have an idea of a type of food in your head, try to get that food, and then it disappoints. Nothing ruins my day more.
I totally bake SP’s ahead of time and keep em ready in the fridge- or make a bunch of chicken when I grill it so I can have a salad feast when I get home! If I know the meal is gonna take time, no worries- that means it’s sabra appetizer time!!
Thanks for thinking of me as your bra. I feel the same way 😀
That carrot looks like…well…I won’t say it, but I guess I just have a dirty mind :o)
As for food prep, I try to do as much as I can on the weekends (or your days off) so that I am ready for the week. I always make a HUGE batch of something–whether it is beans, a soup, seitan, etc.–so that it is on hand and in the fridge for when I come home hungry and ready to EAT right then and there. Then I try to keep the rest of my prep simple by eating basic things throughout the week in addition to whatever I have prepared on the weekend. Things like salads, stir-fries, etc. don’t take long to throw together.
And not eat/snack after dinner?! Totally throw that one out the window…I could never do it!

AH those are popping up all around the city and I want to go so badly! But: Jerusalem falafel on Bway btwn 103&104. Go. You will not be disappointed!
Maoz sounds so good- I kept walking past the one in Union Sq but it was always before it opened!
I prepare my meals in advance too, or at least have everything ready to throw together…nothing worse than coming home stressed/exhausted/hungry and having to figure out what to make!
Eh, I eat yogurt around 4pm every day so I don’t go home ravenous. Holds me over for my commute. Then I snack on a handful of nuts while walking to the gym. Nothing too crazy.
You know how it is when you become OBSESSED with the idea of having a certain thing for lunch and suddenly there is no obstacle too great to prevent you from getting it!?
TOTALLY TOTALLY TOTALLY. Applies to non food items too! 🙂
I always prep my food because I’m cheap as hell and all theys erve in this town in Tex-Mex.
