Weekend by iPhone. Ready, go!
Saturday I had an open faced breakfast sando with avocado and two fried eggs.
Then Kyle’s parents came over and we went to Hollywood.
We had tickets to see Jerry Seinfeld do stand-up at the Pantages theatre.
So excited!!
We parked at Hollywood & Highlands and walked to get an early dinner at Tender Greens. It wasn’t [yet] rainy, but it was cold and windy, so I was definitely ready for something warm.
Tea 🙂
I got the Happy Vegan (as per usual) with a side of roasted brussels, parsnips, and sweet potatoes. For those who haven’t read my million and one previous TG reviews, the Happy Vegan comes with four salads including a wheat, cranberry & hazelnuts dish, quinoa with cucumber & beets, green hummus, and tabbouleh – all with greens tossed in a nice lemony vinaigrette.
We popped into Trader Joe’s for dessert.
Then it was time for Kyle’s parents to head inside. [They had tickets to the show before ours]
Ironically Elaine’s star was across from the theatre.
We killed time shopping. We got Kyle some early birthday presents. I waited patiently while he tried on clothes.
Once it started raining we decided Starbucks was looking pretty cozy. So caffeine it was!
While the storm raged on outside, we sipped coffee and watched March Madness.
Then I busted into my dark chocolate stash. Yummmm. So so good.
I had half then finished the rest of the bar before Jerry came on stage.
He. Was. So. Freakin. Hilarious.
I think Kyle can die a happy man now. Seeing Jerry live was probably one of his biggest goals in life.
We raced through the pouring rain to get to the car and drive home before they closed off the roads to prep for the LA Marathon.
I had a piece of home-made GF bread with almond butter when I got home. It was 1 am when we finally headed to bed.
And yet I still set my alarm for 8 am.
I really wanted to see the marathon winners.
When the finish line is within blocks of your front door, you really have to experience the post-race celebration.
The streets were so quiet! I wish traffic on Wilshire was always like this.
It was so inspiring. The first female clocked in around 2:25 and the first male was done by 2:11 – talk about crazy fast.
There’s Fatuma Sado, a 20 year old from Ethiopia, about to finish with the fourth best women’s LA Marathon time.
And there’s Simon Njoroge, a 31 year old from Kenya.
After we watched a few more of the top runners cross the finish line we headed home, stopping at Starbucks on the way.
My sister arrived shortly thereafter and we went to brunch it up at The Misfit.
I love this place.
My started with mimosas. Then food.
Laura’s seared ahi tuna burger.
Kyle’s fried cheesy grits with eggs.
And my fried eggs on sourdough. Simply perfect.
Afterwards we went across the Promenade to Barney’s Beanery to watch basketball games.
They still had green beer! Clearly I went for it. So did Kyle.
Laura got a Racer 5.
But I ended up switching back over to mimosas. Somehow the time flew by and before I knew it I was pretty drunk…and it was 5 pm…
I passed out pretty immediately after we got back home.
An hour later I woke up and we headed to the Co-op for a quick dinner.
I had no appetite and yet I wanted everything I saw. I made a huge salad with spinach, avocado, quinoa, teriyaki tofu and some other veggies. On the side I had a demi-loaf of La Brea sourdough. I didn’t mean to finish it all. But I did. With a pretty massive amount of (Earth Balance) butter too.
Oof. So full.
We closed out the night attempting to watch The Hangover II (meh). We got half way through.
And tomorrow (or today depending on when you’re reading this) is Kyle’s birthday! So the fun continues on… 🙂
Love the pic of the chocolate bar and Audrey Hepburn’s star – two of my faves!
Oh, and happy birthday to Kyle!!
Ahhhh I see our matching avo-egg obsessions! 🙂 It’s too good! And I love that you were drunk by 5 p.m. My tolerance has plummeted since college and now it takes half a beer. It’s so sad.
Happy Bday to your Kyle!!
Looks like a jam packed day full of good food!
I love watching professional racers. Even though they zip by in .2 seconds, it’s part of the thrill just waiting to see them!
Looks like a great weekend! And I’m always so amazed at the marathon times for elite runners, I can’t ever imagine running so fast for so long!
Oh my goodness what a cracker of a weekend! SO jealous you got to see Jerry…. Seinfeld is the funniest show ever made I reckon. So well written, cracks me up every time.
Good eats, lots of laughs, (Mimosas) you certainly know how to have a great weekend! Love it 🙂
Eek, I haven’t been to that area of Hollywood for a long time! I’m usually in Thai town. I was planning to watch the marathon as well, but I couldn’t get up in time. :-p
Trader Joe’s, chocolate, Starbucks, vegan restaurants… there is nothing here that doesn’t fill me with deep, deep envy and longing. I would pout… but that would be childish 😉
Mmh! I think I’m gonna eat right now the same breakfast as you! Yummy!!
Your red shoes. I want them. Where did you get them? (Yeah, I know it’s a food blog and you posted a million things I would also like to be eating. 🙂 But I have a slight obsession for red shoes… and am in the market for rain appropriate footwear.)
they were a present – from lacoste, but a while ago. i feel like rainbow brite in them!
