Around 4 pm, I hit a wall. Kyle did too.
One cup of coffee and one hour of sleep do not make a winning pair.
Starbucks run!
Kyle discovered his new favorite treat, a Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino (try saying that five times fast…or after certain red-eye conditions). We also got my mom a Coffee Frappuccino (her first one I think?). We are such enablers. It was Frappuccino happy hour though, so it was a decision made purely from an economical stand point. I [thought] I ordered a grande iced coffee with room for soy milk, but somehow I ended up with a venti iced soy latte. Meh. Whatever. I had four sips, got a headache and chucked the rest. I suck.
Not long after my parents ditched us for some nerdy doctor reunion festivities (snooze), leaving the two of us to entertain ourselves until dinner time. Priority one was showering.
We took the scenic route to dinner, strolling through Rittenhouse and then continuing on Walnut Street.
They were filming a movie, which had attracted a pretty big crowd. I wanted to see if a stunt man was going to come flying out the window, but I was too hungry to wait longer than 20 seconds. So off we went.
Looks can be deceiving, so don’t judge a book by it’s cover restaurant by it’s building.
This is Philadelphia. Not New York. Not LA. Appearances don’t matter matter less here. It’s not about the glitz and glamour, it’s about the food.
Blackbird Pizzeria has a reputation for serving outstanding vegan pizza, so I was really really excited.
And when I saw the size of each slice, my eyes nearly popped out of my head.
Naturally, I got carried away when ordering.
The combination of my indecisive personality and growling stomach made me do it. [Yes, both of those slices are for me]
First is the plain cheese pizza (good Lord Daiya is amazing stuff).
However insanely delicious you’re imagining it was, it was better.
Second was cheese with seitan sausage.
I was in cheesy pizza heaven…followed by cheesy pizza coma. Kyle only got one. Pansy. 😛 [Kidding. He helped me with mine]
He and I both agreed that it was the best vegan pizza ever. Kyle also tried to go back for lunch the next day (sorry buddy, we have more places to try).
As a point of reference, I held it up to my head to you could see exactly how massive these pieces of pizza were.
Oh and please excuse my haggard look. The bags under my eyes are compliments of the red eye flight.
Sooooo gooood.
I also got a chocolate whoopie pie for the road. How can you look at this pile of treats and not get one?
This was also more massive than your average dessert. Blackbird has no concept of moderation, and for that, I love them.
I hereby dub thee, colossal cookie. Review to come.
This is what it looks like to TCB. <— Kyle finding out his start-up business just won 70K.
As you can probably imagine, the walk back to our hotel was a happy one.
So glad you got to try BlackBird. They are awesome. Just treated myself to their BBQ portobello mushroom sandwhich today for lunch. Yes, it was huge. And yes, it was delish! 🙂
I want to make sweet, sweet love to that seitan pizza.
That pizza looks amazing. I’ll definitely be picking up some Diaya cheese next time I’m at the store!
I am embarrassed to admit how many times I sat on the steps of that church either drunk or eating frozen yogurt. I had some good times in that city.
Wow, cool that’s awesome about Kyle’s business! Stoked!
I wish we could at least get Daiya over here…. argh! That pizza place sounds too good to be true 🙂
hahaha. i love it. i may be posting my own flashback photo in a coming post…
itll blow your mind. so so good.
Crazy! I was walking right through that movie making mess! I’ve been dying to try Blackbird, I walk past it all the time.
whoa!! what a small world!
daiya is a dream, but its way too expensive.
