Philly: Continental

My groothie was the perfect energy boost I needed so I could walk the long way home from center city.

But it didn’t stop me from enjoying a pre-dinner dessert snack.

I managed to stop half way through this frosting filled cookie delight but da-yam it was hard.  The cookie was thin enough that it didn’t dominate the sandwich, but the frosting was still balanced.  Yeah, it was sweet, but I was expecting it to be over the top excessive (which it actually wasn’t).  It was goooood.

Before I ruined my appetite completely, I showered and hit the road.

We started with dranks.

I got a lesson from the bartender about the difference between tonic and soda.  I can never remember!!  It seems like club soda should be the one with sugar.  I mean, it’s called SODA.  Ugh.  It makes my head spin.  Turns out tonic is actually the one with sugar though.  For the record (in case you’re ever ordering me a drink), I prefer my beverages with soda.  The other thing I have a hard time keeping straight is medium vs mild.  Which is more spicy and which is less?  I have no clue.  I avoid buying salsa unless I’m with someone else for this very reason.  It’s pathetic, I know.

Continental is probably the Stephen Starr restaurant I’ve been to the most.  I’m not a huge fan of the swing chairs (they are kinda hard to get situated in and if you add alcohol into the mix…well, accidents can happen).

Want a blast from the past?  Here’s me in the upstairs lounge area circa 2006.

In my defense, this photo was taken in the wee morning hours, long after most people have gone to bed.  That’s probably not really “in my defense” at all, but there you have it.  I had some fun while in nursing school.  And Continental has bars on all three floors.

Here’s a little food montage (Kyle and I shared everything).

Dinner was outstanding.  My favorite thing was probably the Lump Crab and Tofu Pad Thai.  You can’t tell how massive the portion was from the photos, but it was like some kind of magic never-ending noodle machine was involved (that’s the lesser known cousin of the trick candle).

When it came time for dessert, I chose to order for us both and surprise Kyle.  He never even got to look at the menu.

As if I’d need guidance when chocolate peanut butter cup is one of the options!  He’s easy.

I got soft pretzel bites in caramel with Guinness ice cream

Kyle got my ice cream, but I basically licked the rest of my plate clean.

There’s some kinda of heavenly intervention when sweet and salty unite.  It’s marvelous.

And then there’s this.  I mean really?!?!  In this case, a picture is worth a bazillion words.

And the rain held off our entire walk home!

    Sweet/salty is the best.

Ha, I LOVE that photo of you having a grand old time with that weird cushion-animal. I think I have a few too many of photos similar to this one 😉 Your gotta get your kicks while you’re young, am I right?

I like soda better too… I only drink tonic water when I’m sick (It’s got good stuff in there, but I find it WAY too sweet to drink a lot of). Medium = hotter than mild.

I want that peanut butter thing. And your cookie. Thanks.

Oh gosh, that food looks amazing! And I’m pretty sure I would barely eat or talk because I’d be so distracted by swinging around in that chair! Haha seems like a one-time experience I’d like to try, but definitely not all the time!

Ohhhhhh. Darn Australia and its lack of understanding of the delicious of chocolate peanut butter desserts and pretzels! What an incredible day 🙂

Hey, here’s how I remember tonic vs. soda:

    Gin and Tonics are sweet.

Soda water is like still water, or tap water, but with soda bubbles.

I don’t know if that will help, but associations always help me with stuff like that…
