Kale and gnocchi salad

This is the best lunch I’ve had in a while. It’s the gnocchi salad of my dreams and it happened by sheer randomness, but I want to post the recipe to remember forever. Kale with gnocchi and smoked salmon Ingredients: 1 bunch kale, destemmed 1/2 lemon, juiced 1-2 tbsp olive oil pinch salt and pepper 1 cup cooked gnocchi 2-3 oz smoked salmon 1/4 cup shaved manchego cheese Directions: If you don’t have gnocchi already cooked, boil water and cook some gnocchi, while you prep the salad. Neat Freak

TOMATOES TOMATOES I had planned on making roasted broccoli on Sunday night but it was SO HOT I couldn’t bear to turn on the oven.  So instead I picked tomatoes and basil from the garden and turned that into our other side dish. And then made my favorite lentil salad from America’s Test Kitchen Vegetarian Cookbook. I just adore the combo of hazelnuts and chevre and the simple dressing that coats all the lentils.  Superb simple Sunday meal. For some reason I woke up on Monday with the urge to clean.  Luckily for me, the… Read more >

True Roots inspired muffins

This is my new favorite cookbook (prime day for the win). It’s like it was written for my eating style – gluten and dairy free without refined sugar!  I love it.  I totally watched Laguna Beach way back in the day.  I lived in LA during the height of that show…and then The Hills…oh MTV days….hahaha.  And now Kristin Cavallari is a legit cookbook author!?!  Crazy times.   Anyway, flipping through the book I am excited about so many recipes. First, muffins.  Banana quinoa flax muffins to be exact. I didn’t have quinoa flour on hand… Read more >

Sausalito Day Date

Guess who I spent ALL SATURDAY with?! This big boy and I started the day with a drive to the Bay Area Discovery Museum.  I got all his doses out of the way in the morning so we could play all day without worrying about “rest time”.  And play all day we did! He looks sad here but he was just listening super intently to the Clifford story. And then… He got to meet him! Anyway, we stayed there until 2 pm because I couldn’t pry him away.  I was hungry!  He would have stayed… Read more >

Cooking for three vs four

Which of these meals looks like one that was made with Kyle in town??  The sun dried tomato Caesar salad with leftover chicken nuggets???  Orrrrrr the steak skewers with fried shrimp chips and salad??? Yeah, obviously the steak. Because as delish as this dish was, it isn’t exactly glamorous. This guy, however, was REALLY good and certainly looked the part, too. I channeled my friend’s frying skills and didn’t burn the house down! It actually wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be at all!  Kyle captured a photo to send to Hong to show… Read more >
