A new night schedule?

This little sweetie baked an apple pie with me and both kids have been eating it alllll up. I guess it’s more of a cobbler (and it looks red because we used red palm oil in the crust), but the kids are calling it pie, so PIE IT IS. Look at her all fresh and clean from in her jammies…dessert is a recent phenom in our casa and they are big fans.  We eat dinner on the early side and yet their bedtimes are getting later…I have a feeling we are going to need to… Read more >

Favorite desserts

Continuing food clean out mode.  This dinner was made with pesto from the freezer and sausage from the freezer. The main difference with cooking now, having quit our Costco membership, is that the amount of meat we have on hand is limited.  Whereas before, our freezer always had chicken breasts/thighs and ground beef, it’s not something I stock up on now.  I’m fine with it.  It means we spend less money on meat and eat less meat, even if I have to be slightly more on top of it with planning ahead.  The loss of… Read more >

A week of Thai salads

Looking back on this week’s lunches there is a pretty clear theme! I took one day off (for a smoked salmon snacky plate), but otherwise I managed to eat my way through 4 bunches of kale. Happy decorating

We don’t have any set in stone traditions regarding when we put up our Christmas tree, but it does seem like we are always on the earlier side of the range. This year we waited until the Saturday after Thanksgiving, which was actually late compared to past years.  Thats said, we have been playing Christmas music for a couple of weeks already.  The weather turned cold mid-November and that seems to be my cue… According to a study people who put up decorations sooner are happier.  I don’t think that’s a double blind, peer reviewed… Read more >

Chocolate Pecan Pie day

Our flight landed at 6 pm, so we got home just in time for a quickie dinner before the kids totally lost their ish.  No photos, but it was random as all get out, because there was next to nada left in the fridge. I definitely had chocolate for dessert though.  Vacation Elise has two servings rather than one…and since I woke up in San Diego that morning it counts. The randomness continued the next day with this soup.  I found this leftover short rib gravy (?) and added it to the instant pot with… Read more >
