Millet meals

This week’s grain was millet. It’s small, gluten free, and has a cornbread like taste. I make it in the rice cooker, like I do with everything else, using the same water to grain ratio as rice, quinoa, and couscous.  Honestly, it’s impossible to mess things up in a rice cooker. This one just so happened to be especially on the money…because when I went to scoop it into a tupperware it came out as easy as could be, no spoon required.  Literally. This is from flipping the bowl upside down.  I actually attempted to… Read more >

Day 4: Bio

By day 4 of our vacation we had officially adopted the meal times.  Sleeping in late, relaxing on the balcony with coffee and basking in the sun until well after noon. Laziness suits me. b Blue is a cute little cafe in Palermo SoHo. Eventually we got the touristy part of the day under way and hit up the San Telmo Market.  You have to go on a Sunday. The streets were crowded with random vendors selling anything and everything.  And then there was an indoor market with more stuff.  It reminded me of La… Read more >

Satur-date

Kyle and I are really bad when it comes to seeing movies.  We mean to see things and then we just never end up following through.  Last month we finally got our act together and went to see My Week with Marilyn.  Well, the theatre randomly had a power outage, so after walking all the way down to the Promenade, we just turned back around and walked back home.  I’m very embarrassed to reveal what we ended up watching instead. [source] Ummm yeah.  We watched a documentary about Justin Bieber. It gets worse. I had… Read more >

Day 1: Dining at Quimbombo

Since I already shared our living quarters with you, I’ll move on to the rest of the Buenos Aires fun. After showering and cleaning off the airplane nasties we wandered the neighborhood [in search of an ATM and groceries]. By the time we returned home we were completely exhausted.  At this point we had been awake for almost two days, but it was “only” 8 pm in BsAs and they don’t do dinner until way later than that. To pass the time we munched on some appetizers (bread with camembert, nuts & olives) and watched… Read more >

Reader’s request: For simplicity’s sake

Nowadays I tend to post my more creative recipes as opposed to my thrown together quick plates.  But every time I show a random meal that I have mindlessly made up I get requests for them to continue.  I guess people just want simple.  Here is simple: quinoa, carrots, peas, and seitan.  Prep: Bulk quinoa from the rice cooker.  Frozen peas.  Log seitan made before the work week starts.  So the only thing I had to do when I got home was chop (horse carrots and seitan) and scoop things onto my plate.  It… Read more >
