Dream life

My dream life would consist of waking up, cooking and baking to my heart’s content, hanging out with my family and friends all day, exploring new and familiar neighborhoods in LA, eating at my favorite spots while trying new places, and having big family style meals a few nights a week at our new place. This is basically what I did these past few days.  I wish it didn’t have to end.   I woke up Monday morning and immediately began baking Kyle’s birthday treat.  He requested chocolate brownies, so that’s what I made. Savory madness

If there are typos in this post it’s because I’m running on 1/8th a tank.  I just worked three night shifts in a row (not pretty) and now I’m attempting to write and bake a new gluten free bread following no recipe.  We will see how this post turns out soon enough, but I’ll have to wait ‘til tomorrow to see how the bread tastes. In the meantime, I’m going to attempt to make a savory oat believer out of the 50% of you who still refuse to give it a shot.   C’mon, doesn’t… Read more >

A veggie’s best friend

At the end of the day I want simple but delicious.  Fresh fare is my preference, but sometimes it’s not in the cards.  Enter: the freezer. Leftovers – any time you make a lasagnas or casseroles, make WAY more than you will eat and portion the extras into tupperware.  By freezing 2/3 of the dish from the get-go you preserve the freshness of the dish and guarantee yourself a future home cooked meal. Baked goods –… Read more >

Single take

How about one photo for each meal? Crock-pot spiced brown rice with almond butter. In an effort to bring some variety to my oat routine (the horror!!) I made brown rice this week.  The crock-pot is just as easy because I leave it to cook on low overnight and wake up to warm whole grain perfection. Kale salad with seitan. No explanation necessary.  These two foods will never cease to amaze me. The Cookie Department Great Full (vegan) cookie. You would never ever know this cookie has sweet potatoes in it.  It was soooo good. … Read more >

p.s. chai love you

Is there anything better than a warm mug of chai tea with almond milk? If so, I’d love to try it.  Chai infused breakfasts oats are a start.  And Chai cookies are in my future.  But for now, I’m going to delight in the simplicity of this tea. Work food. Oatmeal with ground flax seeds, blueberries and vanilla almond milk. Fried millet with veggie and hard boiled egg. Carrots, banana, candied ginger as snacks.  Not my usual haul because this was for an 8 hour day, not the full 12.  Luckily we were done with… Read more >
