Highlights only. I could never recap an entire week!
Footed PJs are the cutest thing ever.
Saturday morning we had an open house. Rather than subject P to a million people germing up the joint, I took him for a walk. We went to the Farmer’s Market to re-stock on spinach (this habit requires a constant influx of greens).
After everyone left I came home and got ready for a BBQ with friends. We picked up some apps on the walk over (oh how I will miss these easy walks to friends houses in Santa Monica). Sabra’s salsa has a new look!! Obviously I bought some.
Too bad the weather sucked.
We hung out for most of the day so everyone got a chance to hang out with P. Can you even stand these little boy clothes?!?! He’s growing up so fasttttttt!
On Sunday Kyle’s dad came over and took us to lunch at Greens Up! It’s a fairly simple concept (made to order salads), but I love it. I got the thai salad with cashews, avocado, tofu, and spicy thai peanut dressing. Hold the red onions please.
Alene came over later that night and brought us dinner (so sweet!). I have the best friends. I’m going to miss having her so close. 🙁
I got The Veggie Grill’s kale salad with blackened tempeh (obvs), and then we all shared a few sides, including the nachos, quinoa mac ‘n cheese, and mashed cauli/potatoes.
I don’t know how I forgot to take a photo of dessert, but we spilt chocolate chip cookies with walnuts. I gave Kyle the walnut portions.
Monday’s big task was going to City Hall to sort out moving signs and parking for the trucks. We were also supposed to have another friend visit, but she cancelled. We finished the last season of Mad Men (on Netflix) instead. I love that show. Next up is either Homeland or Breaking Bad. Thoughts?
On Tuesday my Aunt and cousin came over with the wee ones. We don’t have a photo with all of us because Finn was more interested in throwing his toys off the top of the stairs than commemorating our last week in the same city.
Ivy wants to be just like her big bro. They’re both so freakin’ adorable.
I took a break from my salad rut and made us both the same thing for dinner. With both enjoyed bowls of quinoa with roasted broccoli and slabs of Field Roast. I had two bowls because I’m always starving breast feeding.
On Wednesday I redeemed my $10 off coupon to Native Foods. Kyle had a lunch with a colleague so I took P on a mom-son adventure. He’s never driven with only one parent before, we’ve always had the other person in the back seat to keep an eye on him. I figured I should give the solo thing a try (since we are caravanning separately in our two cars up the I-5 on our move). I need to get a mirror to put on the back seat’s head rest or something so I can peek in on him.
It was an easy trip, despite the fact that the restaurant’s parking lot was under construction. We ended up going to a different lot further away, which was completely packed, thereby forcing us to go to the very top level and take a slightly more complicated route…to the elevator…and over the river and through the woods. But the Yo Amigo Taco Salad (with two extra salad dressings) was so worth it. Mmmm.
Ethel came over later that night to have some final snuggle time with P. 🙁
Thursday was a day filled with last minute errands. Reserving parking for the moving trucks, buying a cooler (to salvage some of the freezer and fridge contents), going to the post office, taking apart the crib (it doesn’t fit through the doorway – so annoying!!), doing laundry, cleaning the bikes and patio furniture, packing important things up, taking all the picture frames and art off the wall, and much more. Blah.
That potato with Earth Balance and hard boiled egg (above) was breakfast.
I also baked this bananaberry crumble bread (recipe later) because we had frozen bananas and frozen blueberries to use up.
Kyle did some damage to the block of cheese with those pizzas, while I finished off the last of the produce. It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it…
Which brings us to Friday!!! Moving day!!!
I’m going to miss Santa Monica. Lots. I can’t really write about it. I’m very excited for what the future holds, but it’s still sad knowing we are leaving behind our first family home.
Wishing you an uneventful move, with great weather to start off your new adventure. I’ve never seen Homeland by am a big fan of breaking bad. Have a great weekend/move!
That avocado on that salad looks delicious.
Breaking Bad and Homeland are two of my favorite shows. They are both really, really well done, but I have to say that BB took longer to get into than Homeland did. I started really getting obsessed with it around Season 4 (the best season, IMO), while I got hooked on Homeland almost right off.
Have a great move! We moved when our peanut was 3 month olds. At least they’re not mobile yet!
Best wishes for a smooth moving experience! I’m going to miss all of your local restaurant reviews.
Oh, and my vote is for Breaking Bad! It’s amazing!
Good luck with your move!
Happy moving day!
Yes! They make mirrors to stick to the back window so you can see him while rear-facing!! It’s a wonderful invention & usually just in the baby aisle. It works great later under your rear view to see him when he’s finally forward facing!
Safe travels & enjoy your solo trips! Even at 11, my son loves to join me on my errands – I admit I love the alone time with him, too!!!
Have a safe and sound move! Good luck with everything.
Your time in LA looks fabulous! And all that avocado on that salad is making me hungry. I heart avocado.
You eat some yummy things! P is SO cute. I know you are ridiculously busy, but I am looking into moving to the LA area and would really appreciate if you could give a couple suggestions on good places to live when you get the opportunity 🙂
Wishing you have nothing but smooth moves! And while I’m arbitrarily happy that you’ll be closer to the NW, I am sad that I never made it down to LA while you were there! Looking forward to reading about your NoCal adventures!
Good luck with the move! This weekend should be beautiful up here 🙂
Good luck with the move Elise! I’m sure leaving is hard, but your up for a new adventure and chapter in your life. How exciting!
i miss you all already. =( buena suerte on the drive up and the move my rubia and rubios!
Hope that crumble bread recipe comes sooner than later. Um, yum.
I feel for you. I just moved myself and it is soooooooooo hard. I hope you are able to settle in to your new place and that you will all be happy there! It will take some getting used to, but hopefully not too long 🙂
Courtney
you’re moving?? i must have missed something! are you headed closer to your fam?
Hoping the move goes as smoothly as possible!! I really love BB, but it is a bit much for some people. Very violent and gory! I have a few friends who just couldn’t watch it.
Sending you lots of energy and positive thoughts as you pack up everything and move! It’s never easy but I really think you guys are going to be happy with your decision. I can’t wait to see what the future holds up there for you. (:
Great post, reminds me of the mix of emotions our last week in Florida was as we said goodbye to family and friends. A positive, but hard change! Hoping everything goes smoothly for the move!
It sounds like you have had a very busy week! I hope you all settle in well to your new home. Change is hard, especially one as big as this but I think it sounds like you are doing a really good job enjoying your last time living there. I’m sure your friends will be more than happy to have you and P come visit 🙂
Do you have any suggestions on fodmap friendly salad dressings? Hope all is going well moving into your new home! Filled with love! 🙂
Your baby is so cute.
Good luck with the move! I just moved a year ago and left friends and it’s very difficult but exciting too! You guys are pros at moving so I’m sure you know that already! I don’t know how you had time to cook…very impressed! HOMELAND! Total obsession!
I will get to this (and your salad Qs) once I turn my computer on after i unpack but it may be a while… Hold tight!!
Yup!! Nor cal!!
