What in the world is happening with time. It’s 2020 and I have a seven year old son. This is crazy talk.
I woke up at 5:45 to register them both for spring swim lessons. I can’t tell you how annoying it is to have to set my alarm for such an insane hour to do these things for the kids, but apparently this is the culture we are forced to accept if we want to set our kids up for success. And in this case, I use success in a VERY loose way. As in, not drowning. There are plenty of ways I could be a helicopter or tiger mom, but truth be told, I have children who are bright and self motivated so if anything I am the one slowing them down and forcing them to limit their activities so that they have a proper childhood with free time to explore and get into (light) trouble and figure out ways to entertain themselves without external stimuli. But in this case of summer camps, 6 am seems to be the norm if you want to get your kids into x/y/z program. Sheesh!
So then I was done by 6:15 and since Kyle’s out of town I just headed into our home gym to work out. Rise and grind!
P must have been on birthday alert (or heard my alarm go off) because he was already up at that time too, and he immediately started organizing his new Pokemon cards. Yes, Pokemon is now a thing in our lives. These things seem to go from 0 to 60 in a matter of days. As it happens, his besties and all our neighborhood kids are also very into it so the obsession is full on right now.
Anyway, we had plenty of time that morning to eat breakfast, facetime Kyle, and open presents, all before school!
I made my favorite grain salad for lunch and then V and I headed over to his school because I was bringing in treats for his class.
They sang feliz cumpleaños and we hung out until he got off.
On Wednesdays they get out at 1:30 so we had peak (gorgeous) weather to enjoy as soon as we got home. They played basketball and rode bikes in the front.
And then they played with his new presents (this Warriors book and Pokemon cards). Those are basically his two (non basketball) passions at the moment and she is just along for the ride.
Since those are their late nights (they both have youth group until 8:15 pm), I decided to do cake in the afternoon. Why not?! This way they can go straight to bed as soon as they get home.
Happy birthday big boy!
Oh hi dark chocolate swirl inside more chocolate. P wanted a triple chocolate cake, so I assumed that meant two kinds of chocolate cake and another chocolate in the form of frosting. He is happy with everything I make but he definitely loved this cake a lot.
For his birthday dinner he requested burgers with bacon and french fries. Easy peasy!
I made the fries in the air fryer, but I wasn’t that into them. P picked them out, but crinkle cut isn’t really my thing. More for the kids!
I definitely had a BIG slice of chocolate cake to finish off the night. 🙂
What a life this kid lives!!
Happy birthday to P and that chocolate cake looks amazing!
Happy Birthday P .. what a difference a few years make! How is he doing with his food allergies? Can he mostly eat anything these days? Anything that he has to stay away from/limit? Do you still see the specialist for maintenance?
My kids are in their 20s now and I also had to get up early to call and register them for swim classes. I always felt swimming to be one of those life skills. It has been wonderful watching P grow up. Your Instagram past are great! Thank you for taking the time to post. Enjoy the life of a seven year old.
Thanks Lyn!
He is doing great! Just plugging along in maintenance mode – same dosing but I let him eat whatever he wants. He doesn’t love peanuts so he rarely eats that outside of his dose, but he definitely eats plenty of (extra) dairy. We got new bloodwork done at his well child visit and all his IGE levels have dropped a bunch so we are on the right path!
