Kyle’s cousin from Norway is visiting, so even though I’ve been working for most of her time in LA, I managed to join up for dinner and drinks the other night.
We got drinks at The Misfit (rapidly climbing the charts in favorite Santa Monica bar/restaurants). The above is a Gin Fizz – minus egg whites which are apparently a normal component of the drink? Weird. The drink was delightful, but got me kinda wasted. I’m so pathetic. It takes nothing to get me drunk nowadays. Fortunately we were off to dinner after that.
Stopped for photos along the way. Here’s Kyle and his cousin with the Santa Monica Pier in the background.
At True Food Kitchen we met a friend to make us a foursome.
We started with two appetizers for the table. Well, they were intended to be shared. I ate almost the entire hummus platter by myself.
The sardines were for Kyle and Joe.
I’m a bit bummed with myself for not branching out with my order. Next time I will definitely try something different. Not that I didn’t love my kale salad with tofu, because I did. But I have a bad habit of sticking to the same thing every time I return to a restaurant. New goal: order differently every time I repeat dine.
Back home I got ready for another work day and played around with a chocolate tofu chia pudding recipe.
It’s still not totally ready, but that doesn’t mean it was excellent. Mmm…
Do you tend to order the same thing when you go back to a restaurant? Or do you branch out and show the rest of the menu some love too?
I like to try new things, so I tend to order something new each time I go to a restaurant. I like to choose something I know I wouldn´t be able to cook for myself at home. But sometimes it is hard, because some meals are just too tasty to leave them behind.. 🙂
I always tell myself I’m going to order something new, but at the last minute I normally order and old favorite. That chocolate chia tofu pudding looks amazing!
I used to just order the same thing all the time, but now that I am a bit more adventurous (and almost completely vegan) I tend to try just about any non-animal product containing goodies when I am out and about.
I’m the same, its so easy to get into a restaurant rut! When you know something at a particular place is delicious, it’s very tempting to order it every time (as I often do)! Your kale dish looks divine though! And seriously, I’m uber impressed with the level of vegan dining in CA, it looks incredible! As do those sardines, lol! 😛 xyx
Oh, I miss LA!
I tend to get the same things each time when I eat out. I like to “play it safe,” especially since there are many restaurants that do not offer veggie food. Also I think I’m really picky as well. 😉
I moved to SF. Sorry it took me a while to get back to your comment–moving was crazy. We’re also still getting situated here and are slowly unpacking.
Anyway, hope your morning is going well!
I feel your pain, I am SUCH a lightweight. I’m perfecting a chia pudding recipe too, can’t wait to see yours!
I totally have that problem! I can’t help it–if I love something, I want it again! I get the exact same take-out from this vegan spot down the road, even though everything on the menu is A.) an option for me, and B.) looks delicious. (Maybe this issue stems from the fact that I’m so used to only having ONE veggie option available that I always get?? Who knows.)
I do want to try to branch out more because there is probably more that I’ll discover and love…
It depends on the restaurant but usually I always order the same thing as well. I am kind of a wuss when it comes to trying new things because I don’t want to be disappointed if I don’t like it! lol. I really need to branch out more and I think that will be easier for me once I don’t live in small town Nebraska anymore–everyone here is all about the meat and that’s just not me.
No I don’t order the same thing.
And I demand the recipe for the chocolate chia pudding thingy right away. It looks ready to me.
Sorry I didn’t mean to be so pushy, the pudding looks great, maybe when the recipe is ready you will post it.
I usually order the same thing. Very bad, but I’m always afraid I get dissapointed when I order something else. Although monday night I did branch out and ordered the daily special. And it was even better than my usual veggie quiche! I guess that’s a sign.
I always plan to order something different but usually go with a tried and true dish.
Sad to say, I’m not really a branching out kind of a girl. I don’t go out to eat much, but when I do, I go to the same places and order the *same* thing 🙂 I recently did a post about staying open-minded: something we all need to work on!
you totes know how to show an out-of-towner a stellar time lady! ummmm can we talk about what is taking the nfl so damn long to get their shiznat together!
I always order the same things! I can’t help it!
that pudding looks great! looking forward to its excellence in recipe form 😀
Mmm, I had forgotten how good tofudding is!
Seeing as there are limited restaurants in Madrid where more than 2 things on the menu are even an option… I’d say I stick with the same exact dishes. This said, even with more options I tend to stick with what I know I love!
ahhhh, i KNOW!!! freaking. not. cool.
haha…its coming soon! i swear!
thats my problem. if i order something and i dont like it, ill be so bummed i passed on my tried and true fave. but im going to branch out now. i vow to do so!!
how fun! i love san francisco!
ditto. last minute change up to the tried and true.
cant wait to check it out. definitely need to work on that!
