No retainer, no nuts

Sometimes after a week off of blogging I look at my photos and I am SO confused. I never had any breakfast photos (there’s too much going on in the morning!) and there always seem to be far more pictures of chocolate plates than there are days of the week. I swear I ate more than this, but here are the only photos I have from an entire day! I have no idea…

I mentioned it before, but on Sunday I had a day date with my girly. I let her pick out whatever she wanted to eat for a picnic before we headed onto campus to watch the US Davis women’s gymnastics team.

I honestly don’t know what she liked more!!! Probably the hummus…although as soon as we got home from the gymnastics meet she changed into a leotard and started doing a routine for us.

Dinner was a freezer clean out because I had some random tomato and beef stews in odd amounts that I couldn’t serve to anyone by themselves, but once combined it was enough to cover us all.

Nobody minded the different kinds of beef stew and it definitely made things easy for me after coming home from our day date (they’d mostly defrosted on the counter, but needed a little extra help in the micro). Kinda nice that the freezer is getting thinned out too. It makes me oddly happy to use things up.

C H O C O L A T E.

Sadly, I couldn’t bite into the parts with nuts because of some drama that happened with my permanent lingual bar (retainer) earlier in the day (hence the soup for dinner). Talk about a depressing way to be forced off dessert.

Don’t worry, my bar got fixed the next morning. Having a dentist for a friend is a blessing (but probably not for him).

I roasted Brussels for lunch and ate the entire sheet in one serving. Surprising absolutely no one.

Added carrots, candied walnuts and cheese to make it a weirdo plate of good food.

Kyle was out of town for a few days and I was planning on making us pizza for dinner, but then the kids both requested a kale salad (!!). With nuts and salmon. Uhhh, yes please!! I was like, yeah, I like your idea better and got to work on it.

We had a little bit of leftover salmon from the week before, but then I found a single filet in the freezer as well, so I sautéed that in tamari and oil, which meant the combined amount of fish was juuuuust enough as a salad topping. I could barely stretch it for three people so it was a good thing to make while Kyle was out of town because it wouldn’t have been enough for four people.

The rest of the salad had kale, cilantro, roasted veggies, and almonds (with a tamari miso dressing).

And then I had the biggest dessert of all time.

I had to leave my MOPS meeting early that morning because of the aforementioned emergency dental situation, but you better believe I grabbed a plate of goodies to take home for later when I could eat again!!! The muffins were for the kids, but I polished off EVERY SINGLE OTHER treat on the plate that night once the kids were in bed. It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta eat it…talk about a sugar rush. Solo parenting makes me make questionable decisions some times. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How were those cauliflower crackers you and V had on your date? I have been eying them for a while but never want to spend the $$ on something that might not be worth it.

How fun to go watch the gymnastics! I would be very into that myself….! I’m very with you on eating a pan of roasted brussel sprouts- they’ve been expensive here lately so I’m doing more roasted cabbage wedges for the time being (also delicious)
The kids dinner request cracks me up, that’s too funny.
Glad your dental drama was short lived and let you resume regular dessert quickly :))

Not worth it. Don’t buy them. They were on sale so I went for it, but I didn’t like them and wouldn’t buy again.

Constantly worried my permanent retainers will break off. Thought my top one was a goner the other day. But, so far, so good 😉

For 20+ years it was never a concern and then a year ago it popped off for the first time…and ever since it has happened three times! Ugh. My dentist reattached it to every single tooth now though (I only have it on the bottom front four teeth), so I am pretty sure it is staying put.

    Strike that. Bottom six teeth.
