Like most of the parents with kids in the 4+ range, my kids are LEGO obsessed. And so, while down in Carlsbad for Thanksgiving break, we took the kids to Legoland for the second time.
We had driven down the day before with my mom and stayed the night in Glendale where my cousin and her fam live because we wanted to join them for Thanksgiving.
The next morning we were up early to hit the road and get to Legoland as soon as it opened.
My dad was still up in Nor Cal, but hit the road even earlier (from Nor Cal) and was able to meet us in the park just before lunch!
Last time we went to Legoland, Ninjago meant nothing to my kids. This time, however, was very different. Not only have they read a bunch of Ninjago easy readers, but they have the Ninjago LEGO sets and even watched the Ninjago shows on the long drive (I rented the DVD from the library). Sooo, suffice it to say, we were well versed in the characters and their powers this time around, making the ride even MORE fun. If that’s possible!
Of course the rest of the park is super fun anyway, regardless of your love for LEGOs.
I had a hankering for chicken nuggets which were pretty easy to find. The slaw and spicy pickles were a nice touch, and made me feel like I wasn’t a total child with my order (not that I cared).
We watched the cheesy Christmas performance.
We went on all the rides.
We definitely had a blast.
And just like last time, we had access to the aquarium as well because our tickets were discounted from our local library’s summer reading challenge (free kid ticket with an adult ticket purchase).
Such a fun time!
If you haven’t been to Legoland, I highly recommend it because in many ways it is better than Disneyland (fewer people, shorter wait times, etc). They have stuff for all ages – duplo blocks for little kids, race car building challenges for older kids, rides for every height, and pretty decent food options. And there is still so much they haven’t even aged into (ie Star Wars and rollercoasters)!
The rest of the vacation was much more low key.
We stayed at the Omni La Costa (four years running!) and lounged by the pool for 90% of the time we were there.
I’ll share more of that part of the trip next…
