My highlights: week 13

I downloaded the Maverick upgrade for my mac and as it turns out, it doesn’t support the PC livewriter program I use to blog.  So I am trying to sort out a new system.  I have close to zero tech skills so I have been teaching myself super basic css crap over the past few days and as a result this is the blog design I’m going with.  At least for now.

Since I had a highlights post (from two weeks ago) in the works that already got deleted, I’m going to see how well I can re-write it without forgetting stuff.

Most important!  Both sets of parents came to see the new digs.

The BBQ got lots of action (so did the wine opener), by both mine and Kyle’s dads.  Guys and grilling much?

IMG_3732 IMG_3726

Kyle’s dad was like handy man extraordinaire and literally fixed anything and everything we threw his way.  Meanwhile, Bev and I shopped up a storm turning our house into a home.

I cannot even begin to tell you how fun and awesome it was having them in town.  They spoiled us all so much and P was in heaven with the extra attention, too.

Unfortunately, we got a taste of the woes of homeownership only a few days in when our upstairs laundry room flooded.  We woke up to fire alarms in the middle of the night and were very confused and disoriented…until we went downstairs and saw a mini waterfall pouring from both the fire detector and the sprinkler head openings in the ceiling.

We couldn’t find the water shut off for the house and the alarms were still blaring so soon enough the fire department showed up and tried to fix the problem.

A few hours later we had things dry(ish) downstairs and semi-sorted out.  It’s a long story that I won’t bother going into…

Suffice it to say, the next day and a half were spent playing rotate the towels.  I used my body as a weight, absorbing water from the carpet like a tofu press.  Over and over and over again.  Oh, and we got fans and industrial shop vacuums too.  Good times.

IMG_3764

Oh, but did I mention?  P slept through the ENTIRE THING!  WTF?  This kid is so random.  The alarm was literally blasting for hours next to his head while firemen stormed up and down the stairs past his room over and over and…nothing.  Not even a stir.  Weirdo.

We were pretty lucky in that the water damage and warping was minimal.  Although the mold situation is still TBD.  Thankfully we have awesome (new) neighbors who cheered us up big time when they arrived with pie in hand.  Blueberry from Ikedas!  Amazing!  Clearly we hit the jackpot with this ‘hood.

This boy wants to walk so badly.

Playing with tools just like mama and dada. [P.S. I got such a high from using the power drill to install this baby gate]

Old chairs on the left, new chairs on the right.  Because the handy-man can.

Outside eatin’ yes please.

All of my favorite prepared side dishes from Nugget Market (brussels Caesar, roasted sweet potatoes, and grilled red potatoes) – with (unpictured) BBQ to complimented them.

In addition to the above, I also got the broccoli  slaw way too many times over the course of that moving week.  Yes, I loved the delicious convenience in the moment, but I was very happy to get back to my own cooking after the thrill of it wore off (and the realization that that kind of eating is $$$ kicked in).

And for further proof that we dined out way too much during moving week…

My text convo with Mermaid sushi indicates just how frequently I order take-out from them.  [So much so, that they threw in a free roll for being a super mega loyal customer – yikes but awesome]

And onto week 14 we go!

I think it’s hysterical that you text your orders to the sushi place! Same order but double hahaha 🙂

I didn’t realize that LiveWriter was ever compatible with a Mac. Did you use Parallels to use it? I use Mars Edit for blogging. It’s all I’ve ever used so I don’t know how it compares.

I love ur blog and u’ve inspired me to start my own. Can u give a newbie some tips, like which blog service u use? Did u buy your domain/server or whatever it is called, and if so, what did u use to do so? What other tips, costs, and need-to-knows are useful? Thanks… Congrats on the new house!

i downloaded a program to let me run windows on my mac (similar to parallel) so i basically had a pc and an apple. it slowed up the hard drive for sure but i loved live writer so much i didnt care. now im using wordpress until i decide if i am willing to pay for a service thats subpar to the free one im used to.

yay! thats so awesome stacy! i dont know what advice i have to give! i used blogger at first but switched to wordpress.com later and eventually to wordpress.org (to self host) using bluehost. i bought my domain after id been blogging for a while, but i dont know that it really matters if you have your own .com really. i try to put as little $ into it as possible because its supposed to be a hobby and i really just want it to stay that way – i really dont want to look at it as a business. i did my own design stuff using free themes from the wordpress page until HHH was about 4 years old and then i spent some money to have a professional take a crack at it (that was the theme it was until last week). thats when i went to self hosting too. the theme was thesis and if you google it i think they have pretty good tutorials if youre tech minded. otherwise, id go with a wordpress.com blog – definitely the most bang for your buck and has a great support for any/all questions you will come upon. hope that helps!
