I’m gonna try to race through the rest of our time in Ka’anapali because it’s been, like, seven hundred months since we were there and if I don’t post something (anything!) now, I never will.
The first night in our new rental place we got take out from Star Noodle. This place was referred by everyone under the sun and it most definitely did not disappoint.
We got a noodle dish (duh) and two sides. Dish photos and deets (copied from the menu) below.
Hapa Ramen – Rich Pork Broth, Roast Pork, Soft Boiled Egg, Choi Sum, Kamaboko, Bamboo Shoots, Mayu, Aka Miso
Kalbi Steak – Marinated Short Rib, Ko Chu Drizzle
Miso Salmon – Charbroiled with Su-Miso Sauce
They packaged the noodles and toppings separate from the broth since it was a take out order and it worked great! The noodles stuck together a bit but it was fine once the broth was added.
OMG the broth was insane. The soup was seriously the most flavorful and delicious umami packed bomb of yum.
I didn’t love the steak, so I gave it to Kyle and there was salmon leftovers because the soup was so filling. The portion was daily enough for two to enjoy as an entree and that’s saying a lot because Kyle and I eat a lot.
I made P food from the groceries we grabbed a few hours before. We did all our shopping at the local Safeway, which has a decent enough selection. There was a natural foods type store up the road that we visited the next day, but I didn’t want to get too much stuff because we were only there for 5-6 more days and I hate food waste. It’s hard shopping for short time frames with kids. I want them to eat diverse things, but I don’t want to stock the fridge like we are at home. As a result, V ate french fries from our take out orders on a few occasions and whatever. Balance. We also had the left over food from the Makena House that we all shared the week before – including 3 tons of bacon that weren’t eaten at the wedding brunch.
Look at this cute plate the rental house owners left for us!
We finished this bag in 4 days and “had to” go back and buy two more. Chocolate runs in our blood. And this wasn’t even the only dessert eats we had (see previous photo).
Granola + nuts + almond yogurt and then off to the beach!
Para…para…paradise.
Beach, pool, beach, pool, repeat. That’s the good life.
Leftover salmon in a big mixing bowl salad with a BUNCHHHHH of kettle chips. I took down that family size bag solo, obvs.
This is how cabin fever (aka V’s nap times) went down. That deck of Uno cards were pretty abused after a week with us. He made up a bunch of games with them – none were the real game of Uno – but his creativity never slowed.
There was a health foods store (Farmer’s Market Maui) that we walked to where I got kombucha on tap…and there was a park across the street. Perfect combo.
Chaos.
Take out for the adults.
SOOSH.
My very favorite spot (Sansei) doesn’t accept take out orders before 5 or 530 or something (I can’t remember). And then they said they would take a while to make it so we basically did the math and realized we wouldn’t get our food until well after 7 and that just wasn’t going to work. So we tried a new place! Aside from the kitschy name (Miso phat), I enjoyed every single thing about this place. The rolls were stellar (and I’m picky about my sushi). I don’t remember what we got but I scoured the IG photos with #misophat to find the best looking rolls and it worked out great.
Morning running with a view.
He made us read him the coffee table book (about the origins and properties of the Hawaiian language) so many times while we were there, he definitely took some of that knowledge home with him.
More beach time!
The Castaway Cafe was under a minute walk from our rental so take out was so easy. I got fish and chips and Kyle got a pulled pork sando.
I made a big salad to go with mine because I thought I’d save half for later…but then I ate it all.
The salad was only because I really craved greens, not because I felt obligated to eat a salad or anything. I know it’s cool to hate on kale and healthy food and all that, but I genuinely like it so for me, vacation means salads AND fried $*&T.
For dinner we went to the fish market up the road and got seafood caught that morning.
They do prepared food too, which we got for lunch a different day.
Monchong and Ono for Kyle to grill.
SO MUCH FISH.
We got a ton to have extras for the kiddos throughout the week. They have no idea how good they have it.
Back soon!
Great to have a nearby awesome fish market, not to mention a grill! Really amazing looking meals you guys had there. The beach/sleep/pool/repeat routine is the best kind of day….
