Fishing for grandpa.

IMG_2321Wednesday was our “free day” before the wedding (as in the day where nothing was planned) so we kept it mellow with no plans.  V was still showing signs of fussiness, but we still didn’t know if it was her being sick or just stranger anxiety heightened by the foreign setting.  She’s usually the most happy go lucky girl, so it was really bizarre to have a high maintenance kid on our hands.  I had a bunch of mixed feelings about it though because she was nursing a lot more than she normally does (which was so sweet since I thought she was trying to start self weaning before we left for vacation) but she also wouldn’t tolerate being more than an inch from me.  And if I was in the room but not holding her – forget about it – hysteria like you’ve never seen.  So yeah, it was a lot of me trying to enjoy my time with family but actually being completely distracted by attempting to soothe my littlest.  AAAANYWAY.

He doesn’t need many (or any really) toys to create hours worth of entertainment.  Sticks and leaves were enough to build a park for his “friends” (and birds and snails) to play on…

I am surprised to say, I took a photo of my breakfast because it’s not particularly thrilling and it’s the same thing I had every morning.  Kite Hill almond yogurt and bulk bin granola with extra nuts.

We wandered down the road that morning because there was beach access just around the corner from our rental house.  Not exactly a perfect sandy beach, but for our purposes it was fine.  Shovel, bucket, sand?  Check check check.

Kyle went and grabbed take out from Cafe O’lea while I fed the kids.  I got an Asian salad with the grilled daily catch on the side.  It wasn’t super inspiring, but I really craved greens so it was good in that regard.

I sipped on this while reading.

And peeked in on these guys every once in a while.

We brought a pack n play for V, but for P we flipped the twin bed frame around so the open side was facing the wall which made it like a pseudo big boy bed/crib hybrid.  It worked great.

My parents offered to stay and feed the babes dinner so Kyle and I jumped at the chance to get out on our own and headed to an early dinner at Monkeypod.

I’m a big fan of Merriman’s but suspected we wouldn’t get a chance to go there given that it’s quite nice and we have two toddlers…so this was a great runner up meal option.

It was packed when we arrived (thank goodness we had a reservation!) but they were running a little behind so we headed to the bar.   They were all out of their kombucha on tap so I ended up getting their house made ginger beer intsead.

Mmmmm.

Kyle got the special of the night, which he said was good, but the portion wasn’t quite big enough.  I thought it sounded amazing too but it had a dairy sauce so I went with the macadamia crusted mahi mahi.

When in Rome…

The coconut broth, bok choy, and nuts all complimented it so well.  The pineapple salsa was okay but I only dabbled in it a bit.  They had this INSANE sounding peanut butter chocolate dessert thing that Kyle and I were super tempted to get but our babysitters (my parents) had a dinner date right after ours so we had to bolt to get back in time to relieve them.

Baths, books, bedtime…then chocolate and Girls on HBOGo to close out the night.
