Ever since I discovered how awesome Jamba Juice is (in terms of taste and their allergen protocol in the store) I’ve been tempted to let P try it.
I want him to learn how to speak up for himself – to self advocate about his allergies and his health needs – and maybe develop a bit of independence in the process. Also, I want him to get the pleasure of ordering food (if we eat at restaurants with the kids I always bring food for him – I trust no kitchen other than my own).
So last week, when he randomly woke from his nap early, and I had two sick children in desperate need of getting out of the house, I seized the moment and drove to North Davis for a treat.
This is a carrot smoothie (can’t remember which one) that I tweaked by swapping (lots and lots of) kale for the mango. It was perfect. He loved ordering and then watching them make it. I told him about asking for a peanut free blender, which they were happy to do. And then he got a cold smoothie in his own cup that made his little face light up.
And then we went to the park where he sipped it ever so slowly between adventuring.
There was a little extra which they gave me in a tiny cup (which I shared with V). Family win.
Dear Jamba Juice,
Thank you SO much for taking allergies seriously and providing a safe place for me to take my son to eat. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to feed him nutritious ingredients without the concern of a contamination reaction. Keep up the great work!
I also just discovered they have an app! Now I can order in advance and save myself so much time. It’s always a good thing when lugging two kids in and out of the car is the slowest part of the trip. The one problem is that I can’t specify a peanut free blender or substitutions on the app (at least I didn’t see a way?). I commented about this in the app’s suggestions section so maybe the next iteration will have that little kink worked out. In the meantime, I can order my own smoothies to go! I got a coupon for $3 off just for getting the app! You know I love a deal 🙂
