It’s pick-up.
Since publishing my book, I’ve been rather lazy in the cooking department. Home-made eats have been at an all time low. Our kitchen is sad, I’m sure, but I’m enjoying the time off.
Anyway, when delivery.com asked me if I’d like to try out their service (with a $10 off voucher) I said sure! It was the perfect excuse (not that I need justification for getting take-out).
I’d been craving Thai food for a while, so I entered our address and “thai” and immediately Thai Dishes popped up. Perfect! It was on my hit list already!
I felt like a little walk, so I got it for pick-up instead of delivery. I also ordered pretty far in advance and picked the time I wanted it to be ready (6 pm). We didn’t walk as long as I anticipated, so we showed up at Thai Dishes a little early – but it was ready to go!
I liked that there was an option to “go green”, but I still ended up with plastic utensils and napkins, even though I clicked it. All wrapped with no spillage or leakage. 🙂
My eyes were a bit bigger than my stomach…5 dishes for the 2 of us…because we’re piglets.
The green curry with tofu was the best of all. I loved the flavor. LOVED it. It was sweet and spicy and perfectly balanced. I was moaning like a fool over how freakin’ good it was. I think Kyle took the hint based on repetitive my praises and stuck to one small serving. I’ve never had eggplant so soft or curry so delicious.
I had the leftovers with rice the following night shift. As an FYI to anyone thinking of getting this dish, it definitely had some heat to it (I coughed a few times) despite the fact that I ordered it “mild”.
My next favorite dishes were the noodles.
Above is the Pad See-Ew and below is Chow Mein. I ordered both with tofu. I kinda thought Chow Mein was a Chinese dish, but I was happy to get it anyway. My Thai cravings definitely include greasy noodles.
The Pad See-Ew was awesome. I had seconds and thirds and finished the thing off for dessert later that night.
The Chow Mein looks more bland than it was, but I did add soy sauce because the noodles had flavor but the tofu was kinda lacking. Still a win in my book.
Last, but not least, were the Thai Sweet Basil and the Vegetable Delight. Both with tofu. Both so-so.
I enjoyed these as leftovers more because they had all the juices in the bottom. I added couscous to each and brought them to eat on night shift and it was saturated in sauce. So so good.
I am glad delivery.com contacted me because I’ll definitely be using them again in the future. It was a really simple straight forward process and the website has a lot of options. User friendly and veg friendly.
I’ll also be hitting up Thai Dishes again. The menu has tons of veggie options to try…although I suspect I’ll get the green curry again every time I go.
And now I’ve got my Thai fix.
The Pad See Ew looks so delicious! i have Thai cravings all the time too – and they definitely include noodles:)
I wish I lived where I could get good food like that! KC is getting better every day though, but I am so lost as to what to order now when I do go somewhere like that! I too have been in a down of cooking lately just out of summer laziness. Wraps are my friends! can’t wait to see the new book!
glad to see you were finally able to get the site to work too!
I do love Thai food. There is this lovely place in Saskatoon that I can’t get enough of. They veganize their soups and most dishes, so I can get my fill. It is AMAZING – especially the peanut sauce!
Do you live in Kansas City? I’m originally from there! Haha they are getting better, slowly. I’ve found a lot of places that offer gluten free items!
Oooh, cool site! Thanks for letting us know about it…I have a feeling it will be my best friend in the coming months 😛
Have you tried Thai Vegan? They deliver, and everything I’ve had from them has been so good. Especially the papaya salad and massaman curry!
Yummm! Looks so tasty! I do love thai food, but hate cilantro so always have to make sure it doesn’t come with that silly stuff. Hope all is going well with you!
Yes I do! They are getting better here with Fud, Gratitude etc, but when you’re in the suburbs its dicey! Gluten Free will ALWAYS be a challenge but I’m hopeful. KC has a lot to offer and its trying hoping it keeps growing!
That company sounds awesome what a good idea!
It’s been so long since I’ve had good Thai! I love it do much but we moved away from our favorite place. I need to find a new one!
Everything you got looks amazing though.
