On Wednesday and Sunday mornings there’s a mini farmer’s market at the Marriott.
I ended up getting some fruit and baked goods for breakfast. Are you shocked or what?!? No acai bowl?!? What?! Identity crisis!
For reals, though, they had these fried doughnut things with cinnamon sugar on top (malasadas) and I HAD to try them.
Pool lyfe.
So that Choice didn’t wonder what happened to me, I popped by for lunch to get their kale Caesar. I added avocado and felt like I was at home. This salad suits me. I am totally going to re-make it back in Davis. Sun-dried tomatoes, capers, mac nut/nooch “cheese” topping and creamy cashew dressing – so. much. good.
I got a massage! I really love massages and wish I got them more frequently, but let’s be honest, it’s a total indulgence. I average two a year at best (usually as gifts), but those places like massage envy always tempt me with their super discounted prices for regular attendance. I prefer to spend my $ on exercise. That’s just as good at keeping me zen and contributing to my wellness.
Cozy there girl?
For dinner we went to Star Noodle.
After last week’s hideous wait time, we decided to dine in with a reservation. In truth, I probably would have been fine not going again but Kyle wanted to go back. Don’t get me wrong, it was 100% delicious and had the best food…but the 2 hour wait really turned me off. There I was though, back for more. The reservation helped though. We waited a short while for the table to be ready and then once we ordered the food came out lightning quick. Previous feelings erased. Star Noodle was back in my good graces.
First out of the gate – teriyaki grilled chicken, scallions, sesame seeds, and pickled onion. Two thumbs up x4.
Once again, we ordered the miso salmon which was charbroiled with su miso sauce. It’s predictably perfect. Every time.
As good as the Singapore noodles were that we got last time, I really wanted to get the Hapa Ramen. It’s one of their mot popular dishes for a reason! And I remembered loving it last time. It has a rich pork broth, roast pork, soft boiled egg, choi sum, kamaboko, bamboo shoots, mayu, and nori. But to make it gluten free they swapped out the ramen noodles for rice noodles. Winning! It was soooo goooood. And V couldn’t get enough of the broth. She would have slurped down the whole bowl if we’d let her. How do you do ramen family style though?? It was no easy feat, but we didn’t let a single bowl hold us down.
Last but not least, the Filipino bacon & eggs with crispy pork, poached egg, tomato, and onion. We got this last time and couldn’t pass it up again.
You break the egg right when it arrives and it finishes cooking on the hot pan. It was just as salty as last time, which is both a positive and negative. It’s hard to stop eating, but then you have to because it is cuh-ray-zee rich.
As we were leaving, we realized we had to go to the grocery store (we were short one day’s worth of dairy doses for P) and then Kyle told me to get him ice cream too. I said I would but then he changed his mind and said he’d have chocolate instead. But then when I went to check out my receipt printed out a coupon for a FREE HALO TOP ICE CREAM! What are the chances!?!? It was fate.
Have you ever tried Halo Top? I’ve heard so much about it, but never tried it. Kyle told me he’d save half the tub for me.
Only one more day left!
