Being a hippie I hate to admit to loving something as corporate as
Nike. But seriously, sometimes I see the Nike logo, and can’t help but tingle all over, especially when it is race weekend and the message is female empowerment.
[run like a girl photo]
Makes my heart go pitter patter.
On Friday I went into the city for some fun (to pick up my race day packet, bib number, and get some pampering). Hello, freebies!!! Smoothies, manicures, pedicures, massages, not to mention the samples from Kashi, Luna, Safeway, Ghirardelli, Say Yes to Carrots, and so many more I couldn’t keep track!
Cycling to power the smoothie blending!!
Naturally, I stopped into the Nike store (I was in Union Square already, how could I resist)…and wouldn’t you know it, I left $100 lighter. I got a sweet NikeFIT running shirt though, and the 3/4 length spandex pants that I have been wanting forever.
Super cute, right? Plus, my parents said it could be my birthday present, so it’s all good in the hood wallet.
Oh, and did I mention my NAME was on the outside of the Nike store? It was so neat to see all the runners’ names on the store front. I got chills (or maybe that was just my nerves). Either way, it was neat.
Clearly I’m obsessed because then on Saturday, while I was shopping for wedding dresses (also in San Francisco), we made our way back to the Expo in Union Square.
In the interest of time, I am going to gloss over the SERIOUS disaster that my iPod added to my pre-race preparation. OMG. I was not in the mood to deal with this shiz. To make a long, stressful story short shorter, my nano kept freezing all Friday/Saturday, and despite my numerous attempts to reboot it, (which included but was not limited to restoring it to factory settings, restarting it, and throwing it across the room praying for it to just give me another 24 hours), I was still S.O.L. The nice Apple employee suggested I “borrow” an iPod for the day, so next thing I knew I was leaving the Apple store with a brand new shuffle. Not exactly the most calm and collected pre-race ritual. Whatevs. I’m going to return it tomorrow and just pay the $10 restocking fee and deal with my janky nano when I get back to NYC.
Come race day I was all ready with my pre-packed goodies.
I spent the night at my sister’s apartment since she lives in SF, and she gave me a ride to the race that morning.
For someone who used to live in SF, I certainly have selective memory because HOLY HILLS. How did I forget about the insane climbs that seem to never end. I felt like I wasn’t moving for miles on end, and then I would finally reach the top of a hill and BAM, the sea breezes sheets of wind would stop me dead in my tracks. So much for beating my last half marathon time. Still, it was a really fun race with a GORGEOUS view the entire time long and a fabulous crowd cheering us on from the sidelines the entire time. I had a blast.
After I crossed the finish line I collected my Tiffany’s necklace 🙂 and other treats, then headed to the massage tent (sweeeeet)!!! My sister picked me up after I was loose and snapped a photo from her car window. Hawt. Thank goodness she didn’t zoom. I was hid.
Congrats girl, awesome job! I love the super cute outfit:)
MAJOR CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Good for you! And yeah the hills and sheets of wind are the main reason SF is a great place to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there!
Great race, hon! If you ever come out my way, I can hook you up with some serious Nike gear.
Congrats on the race sistahhhhh. I swear every time I walk into Nike a part of me dies. I just loooove all the cute running stuff they have 🙂
congrats Elise!!! That sounds like a blastyyy with some good loot!
Congrats!!! I’ve always wanted to do that race. Can’t wait to see a pic of the necklace! 🙂
OMG CONGRATS YOU BALLA!!!!! How are you so amazing?
J’adore the Nike store in SF. I’m not even hardcore into running, but I loved wandering around the store whenever I was downtown. I also refused to buy running shoes anywhere else when I was there. Prissy? Just a touch.
I also loved the TJ’s loot in the last post! I hope you get peanut butter-filled pretzels. Both salt on and salt off are incred. Love the triple layer hummus, BALLS!!! and the Chile sauce. And the pineapple salsa. And the blueberry bran muffins. And the mango ginger chutney. Should I stop? If you need any other rec’s, lemme know. XOXOXOXOXOX
CONGRATS GIRLIE 🙂
Congrats!!!!!!!!!!
This: sometimes I see the Nike logo, and can’t help but tingle all over
Meeee toooo!!!
Tiffany’s necklace? Nice. Work.
And yeah, I just totallly love racing swag. Pre-child, hubs and I did at least one race a month and sometimes 3-4 a month, ranging from 5ks to half’s. Just whatever we could wake up for LOL. Anyway I just love the whole adrenaline of race day and the swag and even though I am kinda a yoga hippy in some ways, in other ways I admit, I love the whole corporate race scene.
Hills in S.F….yeah, tell me about it. You forget, don’t you.
Good luck with the Nano drama too!
xoox
