Sometimes I’m a walking contradiction. Case in point: nuts are not my thing, nut butters on the other hand, are TOTALLY my thing. I am not very vocal about my distaste for nuts, because, well, frankly, it’s a bit embarrassing in this food blog community.
But today, I broke out of my shell (pun intended) and had my first nut milk experience. **A HUGE thanks to everyone who commented with recommendations on my previous post about non-milk milks.**
As for the almond milk…It was…interesting? I can’t even think of any way to describe it. Definitely not nutty, but not milky either. It may take a while to get used to, but I’m eager to incorporate it into my eats – and optimistic that it will grow on me even more.
I then proceeded to inhale approximately 388 times a “normal” weeks worth of nuts over the course of the day. Apparently, trying almond milk opened an entirely new world for me…
In a good way? Only time will tell…
On to the days eats. Lunch, packed the night before, included my usual sammie with a few changes (sprouts, spinach, smart deli “turkey” and honey mustard on A street bread).
The rest of the lunch crew: dried fruit mix, carob raisins, apple, blueberry crisp Clif Bar, and some other unpictured nibbles here and there
Including almonds…(from my half marathon goodies bag)
:( Still can’t do it. After a few nibbles, I gave up and turned to a better mix…
I lost control and ended up having WAY too much. Like 4 cups. Groan. At least I had work to distract me from the binge.
By the time I got home I was hangry.
Lately, the store has been out of my fave brand of seitan, so I decided to try a new kind (pre-made in the interest of efficiency). I admit, it looks suspect, but it tasted MMMM. I have no doubt Caroline will still comment on the appearance 😉
English muffin, chunky sabra hummus, sprouts, and sliced seitan cutlets.
You know how I love my glamour shots of sando doing the splits 🙂
I made a little side salad too…just because I felt like I needed more crunch.
Carrots, chickpeas, cherry tomatoes, and half an avocado.
ZOOM!
Dessert time! Here’s where it gets a bit nutty…I was craving salt in a MAYJAH way.
Carob raisins + salty nuts = salty salty heaven
Servings be damned. I went overboard (and stopped taking pics after refilling this glass more than twice). Photo evidence can be bad news bears, ya heard?!
I told you it got nutty!! Medjools STUFFED with peanut butter. GAHHHH. So good!
Whoever hasn’t tried this combo must do so, immediately. IT.was.AWESOME!!!
Ok, now that I’ve sufficiently stuffed my face energized myself for the big race, I’m off to bed. Zzzzzzzzz. Tomorrow is the half marathon, wish me luck!!!!
I’ve been dying to try seitan – looks great on the sandwich! GOOD LUCK TOMORROW!
GOOD LUCK!!!
You`re going to be stellar tomorrow!!!
good luck!!!!!
nuts – not so much my thing. nut butters – definitely my thing!
GOOD LUCK WOMAN!!! and yes..the seitan is still questionable..come over and make me some then we shall see 😀
I’m not a big nut girl either (….that’s what she said?!). Yogurt covered whatever those are would cure any nut issue!!
I LOVE the glamor shot of that delectable sam!
GOOD LUCK TODAY!!! RUUUUN ELISE RUUUNNNNNN!!!
I can’t stand nuts either! And…do I really want to admit this?…I don’t even like nut butters (the horror!)! I do, on the other hand LOVE dates. Why did you ruin them with peanut butter?! Just kidding :o)
I hope you don’t hate the almond milk too much! If you were used to sweetened soy milk, it might be best to start out with a sweetened soy milk alternative (you could try almond again and see if you like it any better sweetened?).
Good luck tomorrow!
