Hot-urday

Last weekend’s (eek, super delayed post, this is from 2 weekends ago!!) al fresco was indoors because IT. IS. SO. HOT.

I pretend like I’m upset about this, but in reality, my complaints are all big fat lies.  I love the sun.  Summer months are the sh!t.

But maybe I should back up.  I actually took pics of the whole day’s eats.  Well, almost.

I had banana bread with two eggs for breakfast.

We went to the co-op and the farmer’s market for grocery shopping, followed by a lunch date at Crepeville.

I got the Caesar salad with prawns because it sounded divine.  And it was!  I’m going through a MAJOR Caesar salad phase right now.  I dream of creamy tangy dressing and romaine.  Crunch crunch crunch.  Mmmm.  I have been having a hard time mustering up the energy to cook lately and Caesars have been my co-op/Whole Foods salad bar go-to.  Expensive.  I suck.  I feel guilty for not wanting to make myself food and then I get all bummed out when I spend money on pre-made stuff.  I wish I could just be okay with eating whatever and not thinking so dang much about what I’m truly in the mood for.  I have a gajillion recipes bookmarked on my computer for what?  They’re just sitting there mocking me while I buy take-out and don’t cook.  Why doesn’t the recipe inspiration translate to actual motivation.  I love food and it’s a waste of a meal to just eat blah.  It’s so exhausting being a foodie.  Anyway, enough whining.  It’s just a phase.  The pendulum will likely swing the other way in a few days and I’ll be a busy little bee buzzing all over the kitchen with the oven and stove simultaneously going full speed ahead.

Full disclosure this wasn’t the first time I ordered the Caesar.  I got it when Alene was in town earlier this month and we went to lunch.  I heart Crepeville.

The salad came with a side of either fresh sourdough or focaccia.  I wasn’t going to have either so I just got whatever Kyle wanted.  Which was the focaccia.  He loves focaccia.

Kyle got the tofu scramble, which was very confusingly not made with scrambled tofu, but rather made with eggs with chunks of cubed tofu mixed in.  For vegans, that could be an issue that they maybe should clarify on the menu.  But Kyle isn’t vegan, so hey, more protein, yay!  Truth be told, he thought it was weird, but I thought it looked bomb.  So did the potato hash.  I can’t decide who got the better order!  That reflects well on a restaurant don’t you think?  Well we all know I think Crepeville is the sh!t.  His meal also came with an english muffin (and jam).

Neither of us could finish our meals, so we had leftovers to nibble on later in the day.  After lounging around (eating and watching tv) for a few hours, we decided to be slightly less lazy and go for a walk.  But since it was a million and one degrees we kept it short.

And then it was time to feast.

Smoked trout instead of salmon, to keep things interesting.  Another new purchase was salt & pepper cashews (bulk bin at the co-op) and peaches (from a former patient), along with goat gouda and his & hers (wheat & gf) crackers.

The vino was a rose from my pops.  I’m not a big rose person, but I felt like a chilled wine.  It’s a wine that I could sip all night, but never have more than a glass.  Good for al fresco dining.

I have so many recipes pinned on Pinterest and yet, when it comes time to figure out what to make, I get overwhelmed and just cook a frozen pizza.

I’m pretty sure summer is the thing that’s not making me want to cook much. I just want smoothies, salads, and grilled foods!

I totally hear you on the not motivated to cook thing and feeling bad about buying and eating out more than you want to, but you know what, it’s not something you will regret long term, you won’t be looking back in a year and going man I wish I hadn’t bought all that takeaway! Dont beat yourself up because at least it’s healthy, and it gives you time to do more important other things. You have a baby, a husband, a job and a life! Sometimes, cooking, as much as we love it, just needs to go on the back burner for a while 🙂 pun intended.

Thank you so so much for this comment. I seriously read it and thought “she’s so right! Duh!!”
I tend to get caught up in sweating the small stuff and focusing on things I don’t need to so it’s nice to be reminded that this is just that – not worth the guilt/frustration!
