Honua Kai

The second place we stayed at was Honua Kai, which is just north of the new Westin complex (Nanea) in Ka’anapali and has Duke’s Restaurant at the poolside.  It’s pretty fancy shmancy.  We rented it on vrbo and it was perfect.

Breakfast for the kids above, breakfast for the adults below.

We drove over to Choice in Lahaina since our new spot isn’t walkable to Whaler’s Village.  I have no reason for it but I prefer the bigger store in Lahaina to the take away in the mall.   I want a Choice to open in Davis.  Sun ‘n Soil is sooo close to filling that void, but they only have bottled juices and don’t make anything in the store.  The Sac location does though.  I know they have smoothies, I wonder if they have acai bowls?  I am like 4 years behind on this acai trend, I know.  Actually, now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure Jamba Juice has acai bowls and I’m pretty sure I’ve gotten one there before!  Derp.  I guess now I know where I can get them going forward!  Aren’t you so glad I have this blog to think out loud on???

We both got the POWabunga acai bowl (again).  Mine had paleonola on top (nuts nuts nuts galore) whereas Kyle got his with regular granola.  I tried the regular granola and the gluten free one, but in the end I preferred the paleo (grain free) granola.  But of course the almond butter on the top is what really makes it the best breakfast ever.

I may never eat anything else.

It was pretty big though, so I saved half of it for the next day in the freezer.

For lunch I got a crab and shrimp salad from Duke’s.  Per usual I asked for double dressing and they really got the message and included FOUR containers of dressing/sauce.  I will take it all thankyouverymuch.  I used all four containers, naturally, and the salad was amazing.  I want to recreate this at home for sure.

Up until this point we had been letting P have quiet time (like he does at home) while V napped…however the overactive swimming mornings kept causing him to zonk out in the middle of whatever he was doing (drawing, listening to music, etc) so from this day on we decided both kids would be napping for the duration of the vacay.

For dinner we went to the Fish Market and got a bunch of stuff to share.

First, the fish pate with fresh mahi mahi, macaroni salad, and rice.

Second, the fish n chips.

And finally, seaweed salad and lobster salad.

The fried fish is legit (which I already knew because we’ve eaten there plenty of times before), as was the seaweed salad, but the real star for me was the lobster salad!!  I’ve never had lobster salad and we only got it because Kyle wanted it, and man am I glad he did because it was SO good.  The kids liked it too.  It was all really good though.  We usually hit up the Fish Market for fresh caught fish to grill on our own (because the hotels all have communal BBQs) but we didn’t end up doing any of our own grilling this time around.  They also have good poke, but they were out by the time we got there.  They close at 7 pm, so by going at 6 pm it was kinda expected.

Chocolate mac nuts for dessert!!

I’ve never had an acai bowl before because I thought it was just a trend and over-hyped, but now I will have to seek one out and try it! You are making me want one!!

It sounds like you are having a glorious vacation!

My daughter buys açaí packets in the freezer section at Trader Joe’s four for $4.99 and she’s hooked. You have Trader Joe’s in Davis?
