Christmas morning!!!!! Wee!!! [It never gets old]
I slept horribly all night, so I was up before anyone else. Rather than peak at what Santa had stuffed in my stocking, I set to work on breakfast. I made a huge batch of waffle batter and started the coffee (and made enough noise that Kyle and my dad were up soon thereafter).
Once my sister and mom joined the party we all opened our stockings.
Then we took a breakfast break.
Waffles with the toppings: raspberries, blueberries, maple syrup & Earth Balance
My sister made scrambled eggs, too (nice background candid shot of me, huh).
So we had a nice little feast.
We all know how much I loooooove gofres. 🙂
After breakfast we opened presents. There was a mini break for my mom to start the turkey, but otherwise we just relaxed and passed around gifts.
Kyle wrapped mine in newspaper (so green). Can you decode his “card” in the word search?
My family started coming over in the early afternoon, so we snacked on appetizers until it was time for a late lunch/early dinner.
Ok, the food is pretty self explanatory, but I’ll put captions just because.
And FYI, this is a pretty atypical menu (we were all kinda sick of the standards and wanted to mix it up a bit).
Vegan Caesar Salad.
Steamed broccoli & cauliflower; vegan stuffing.
Herb foccacia (from The Acme Bread Co.); vegan mashed potatoes.
Plus cranberry sauce (Oceanspray from the can, yo), my mom’s pumpkin pie, and turkey.
And here are my plates!
I almost finished it all.
After dinner we exchanged presents and then did the dessert thing. I was still too full, but I did have a cup of decaf.
Once it got dark, my Aunt, Uncles, and Grandpa hit the road and we put on Love Actually. My sister called from Australia half way through so we got to wish her a Merry Christmas and everyone got to fight for the talking rights on speaker phone.
After all that it was time for me to face reality (we were driving home the next day) so I set to work packing us food for the road. And doing some last minute laundry.
I also made myself a nice little bowl of granola with sliced bananas and a huge spoon of almond butter. Which I followed up with a spoon of crunchy peanut butter.
I got too tired to finish Love Actually, but I know how how it ends. 😉 And that’s how I spent my last night at home.
Minus the sleep issues, it looks pretty darn perfect 😉 Happy Holidays!
I’m glad you got to spend Christmas at home with your family!
What a sweet sweet day 🙂 a real ‘close your eyes and breathe & remember’ day.
Sounds like you had a great Christmas!
I am super impressed that you are all dressed in your Christmas morning pictures! We are always in our pjs and totally scrubby 🙂
My sister and I watch Love Actually every year too! I love that movie. I basically force her to watch it with me every year, but I know she loves it too 🙂 We didn’t get a chance to finish it this year, though, as we started Christmas Eve and we were too tired to finish it, and I had to fly home on Christmas morning 🙁
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
Courtney
