Here is the latest healthy addition to my life. Fake sugars scare me because of all the chemicals…that just can’t be good for people to eat, right? I found Stevia, FINALLY!! This stuff is great. It is derived from a plant found in Paraguay, and other countries have been using it forever, but for some unknown reason it is not FDA approved. Who knows why…it is known for it’s antimicrobial properties and it is natural and has no calories. So hooray for finally getting it (it is definitely NOT cheap though).
So anyways, I am now using this in my coffee. Adios Splenda, adios Sweet & Low, adios Equal.
Here is lunch: regular 12 grain bread (I am out of Ezekiel), soy bacon by smart deli, and egg beaters. It was a full sandwich, but I only remembered to take a picture half way through eating.
While watching football (I love Sundays so much) I snacked on fresh fruit (grapes and an apple).
Then I headed off to Equinox to check out the gym and try a spinning class there. Since my NYSC membership is ending, and Beth Israel (Continuum Health Partners) has a corporate relationship with Equinox gyms, I thought I would check it out. I am still having to weigh all my options though. First of all, Equinox is closer to our apartment than NYSC (although only by 2 blocks). Second of all, it is way bigger, and since space is so hard to find in New York, it is great to not be running into people or waiting for machines. And third, they have cycling studios at every single gym (NYSC only has spinning at a few gyms, none of which are near the upper west side). The down sides of joining Equinox are there are fewer of them in Manhattan, and membership is more expensive. They gave me a free week trial starting today, so we will see how it goes…
I loved the variety of the machines, and how many there were. Plus, the machines hook up to my iPod and show the menu and playlists and everything on the screen of the machine – cool! The locker room is gorgeous, it reminds me of Oakwood at home in L-town. It is just a much classier gym, it even has it’s own store with work out clothes AND a food bar, that rivals WF (ok, it’s not THAT good, but it is impressive).
Anyways, after I got back from my first day at Equinox I wanted to grub! I had like 6 pieces of bread with hummus. Then since I finished the first tub of hummus, I went out to get another and a big bag of oat bran pretzel sticks. So I had a binge sesh…I opened and finished the bag of pretzel sticks (I love how they say one bag is 8 servings, yeah right) and had half the other hummus container. Full and happy, ready for work tomorrow, night night!
