Down to the pirate ship

When the weather is this sublime you have to enjoy it on the balcony.  Especially when the day before was torrential.

This was the “face-time” juice from Choice (again).

I don’t have many photos from the morning but we walked down to the Westin to play at their kids swim area with a pirate ship. They had so much fun.  As awesome as all the Honua Kai pools are, I knew the Westin had the pirate ship similar to the one the Marriott had (where we were staying before) and they loved it.  We stayed there until lunchtime and then grabbed food from the Westin’s poolside restaurant, Auntie’s Kitchen, to bring home for me. Kyle had the Star Noodle leftovers and I made the kids lunch in our room.

I got the Island Cobb AGAIN, because it’s that good. Dressing much???  😉

Way too many kettle chips on the side.  Oops!

We got a family photo!!

For dinner we went to Aloha Mixed Plate.  It’s the same restaurant group as Star Noodle and they recently re-vamped their menu.  Last time I got the kalua pork, but that wasn’t on this new menu.  The classic mixed plate was though, so I got that for the kids (they don’t have a designated keiki menu, but they did offer buttery noodles or grilled cheese, which is not exactly the best for P).  So I got them the mixed plate to share.

It comes with kalbi ribs, fish, and teriyaki chicken as well as the classic Hawaiian sides – rice and macaroni salad.  I tried some of theirs and the chicken was really good.

Kyle got the kalbi ribs (same sides).

And I got the short ribs with kimchi, grilled corn and a cauli-taro mash. <–new to the menu

Whoa, was this ever good.  I didn’t think anything could top Star Noodle, but this was definitely the best thing I had all vacation.

The taro mash was a unique and still GF twist on mashed potatoes and the gravy was fantastic.  The kimchi wasn’t too spicy and I ate every last bite which was so well balanced with the corn, tomatoes and meat.  And that meat!  It fell off the bone and was sooo tender and savory and good.  Well done AMP!

Bedtime routine.  🙂

I got one of these limited edition GT’s at Safeway in Lahaina and was really into it!  I’ve never seen it on the main land, and since it’s a Winter 2018 flavor, I probably never will again, but if you happen to see one in your area I can vouch for it being yummy.

I still don’t understand the rice and macaroni salad in the same meal in hawaii of all places, maybe everyone just takes a nap after meals?? Haha, i would have to!
I am so completely obsessed with korean food- anything with kimchi added in it will have that intense flavorful impact! Mother in law’s kimchi is really fabulous, i buy the vegan mild red kimchi which isn’t as spicy as it look like it will be. And i make my own vegan white kimchi which isn’t spicy.
That GTS limited edition was delicious! There’s a new one now for spring, haven’t found it yet.
