Daily eats

My breakfast was home-made bread (hence the poor slicing) with almond butter.  I used up almost the very last bit of it, so I decided to make another batch of nut butter.

This time with peanuts.  Roasted peanuts to be exact. Deep down I think Kyle prefers peanut butter to almond butter.  And we recently bought celery and Ritz crackers, which are two of his favorite things to pile with PB.

Honey roasted peanut butter.  Kissed with a touch of agave.

I had to do some taste testing of the peanut butter, naturally, and it passed.  I also cleaned the food processor with a piece of bread (and my fingers).  Way more fun than soap.

My lunch peed!

IMG_3916

Avocado, tomato, spinach, mustard, fried egg on toasted bread.

Which I dipped in the runny yolk.

Post-lunch Kyle and I had an errand to run.  I wanted something to hold me over so we hit up the Whole Foods in Westwood.

 IMG_3924

Vampire juice: beets, carrots, apples, kale, ginger.  It was very beet-y and very good.

Celebration time!  Kyle and I were in the mood for a treat, so we hit up VG.

IMG_3927

Lentil soup starter.  Kyle got this for himself.  Then he let me try it and it was sooo good that he said we could split it.  Then he finished it all before I could get a spoon of my own.  So that’s that.

Kyle’s Santa Fe Crispy Chickin’ Burger.  He was in the mood for some home-style grub so the fried chickin’ patty was perfect.  It also has lettuce, tomato, red onion, avocado, & spicy vegan mayo.  And he got a side of mac ‘n cheese, which looked nice and even in sauce distribution (which leads me to believe my issue last time was a to-go thing only – phew).

IMG_3929

My All Hail Kale with blackened tempeh added on.

IMG_3930

Plus a side of the Mashed Potatoes & Gravy.

Seriously Veggie Grill, you rock.  Nobody does quick vegan meals this well.

Oh everything looks delicious. I keep seeing everyone having sandwiches with eggs for lunch. I have yet to try a runny egg EVER, let alone on a sandwich. I really need to get w/ it I suppose haha 🙂

    Have a wonderful day!

I haven’t been to Veggie Grill in months. I heard that one was opening up by the Arclight (a few blocks from my apartment) and have been holding out for it. Alas, I see nothing so far. 🙁 Also, it’s funny that you think your bread looks like it isn’t sliced nicely. I can’t slice mine worth a damn. Do you have a really good knife, or are you patient and wait for it to cool? Mine always looks like I dive into it face first (which isn’t far from the truth).

homemade nut butters are the greatest – you’ve inspired me to go make some right now! haha and wow does the veggie grill look fantastic! That salad rocks!

Haha your lunch comment made me burst out laughing.
That juice looks so delicious! I need a juicer in my life badly.
I can’t believe I have yet to make my own nut butters, I should really just get down and do it!

SO true. Nobody does it like Veggie Grill.
I was there last night for a birthday dinner and my meal was (of course) identical to yours. I swear, one day I’ll get sick of that salad…or maybe not. One of my friends actually ordered the new Urban-Plate and it looked delicious- I may have to try it next time!

    a. can we talk about that mangled piece of toast?

    b. can we talk about the fact that you clean your food processor with your hands, bread, and your face?

    c. can we talk about how much i miss you?!?! OMG.

    xoxo

We tried to make cashew butter last weekend and it was HORRIFYING! It tasted yeasty and awful. Clearly need to try again. Possibly with a recipe. Or supervision. 🙂

ok ok ok…so the reason its so mangled is because (OF COURSE) i had to do some sampling before it got to the plate. so the slices got all destroyed because i kept shaving off more and more and more…you know the story.
jess, dont ever get a breadmaker…trust me, you cant handle the smell of freshly baked bread. youll eat the entire loaf in one sitting every time you make it. youll do it 10 times in a row. youll swear each time to save some for kyle. then youll be so disgusted that you cant, youll just throw the thing out the window. all the while rusty will be watching you shaking his head in that all-knowing judge-y way. im saying this because i know you and love you. dont do it.

oh and yeah…cleaning the food processor with your face is totally normal. duh. you should see what happens when i make soynut butter in it. game over.

ummmm…yeahhhh…wtf happened??? i dont see how pureed cashews could go so wrong, but i guess you found a way! haha.

  14. Elise (Post author)

i use a serrated bread knife. im not great at it. so i usually slice them into really fat slabs (not a bad thing). ive also gone at it with my teeth though 🙂
