Nope, not an earth quake drill, just my intro to an AMAZING product that I recently became obsessed with.
CoverMate Food Covers are designed for covering food with specific design details that make them a dream tool in the kitchen.
This giveaway post is for anyone who loves a hassle free shortcut – it’s for moms-on-the-go, students with no time, people with no kitchen space, and/or lazy chefs. Or all of the above.
CoverMates are quicker, easier, and greener than saran wrap because you can use them, wash them, and reuse them…over and over again. How’s that for eco-friendly! Anything that can be used multiple times definitely gets the hippie stamp of approval. Plus they aren’t made of plastic, and they’re BPA free, so you don’t have to worry about icky chemicals leaking into your food. Now you don’t have to feel guilty for turning to the microwave when the clock is ticking your stomach is growling.
The highlights:
- Microwave safe
- Dishwasher safe
- Reusable
- BPA free
- Latex free
- PVC free
They can be used for both cooking and storage, and best of all, they take up NO room. Do I sound like a QVC ad yet?
Honestly though, as an (ex)New Yorker, I value anything that is compact. My kitchen was smaller than my bathroom because “New Yorkers don’t cook” (many thanks to whoever started that myth). Needless to say, kitchen appliances weren’t high on my list because where would I store them? I didn’t have a pantry, hell, I didn’t even have a regular sized fridge! So for all the New Yorkers living in a cramped kitchen or college students sharing a dorm with 3 other slobs, I can relate…so pay attention!
CoverMates are your ticket to freedom.
I only wish I had discovered these babies sooner! The value pack comes with all different sizes, including 1 small, 4 medium, 4 large, and 2 extra large, and they take up 1/528th the space of my tupperware collection.
I’ve used the food covers to steam veggies when I’m in a rush…
…to store canned goods (ie beans)…
to reheat leftovers…
…and to thaw meat for Kyle.
Not to call him out or anything, but Kyle isn’t the best when it comes to saran wrap use, so this has been a huge help. Not only are there no more splatter stains all over the inside of our microwave, but we no longer go through a pack of saran wrap each week. It’s seriously the simplest idea and yet, it’s so brilliant I can’t seem to say enough good things about them!
So, have I sold you yet? If so, check out the CoverMate website to purchase and/or locate a store near you. And if you want a shot at winning them, here’s how to enter (you can do as many of these as you’d like):
1. Leave a comment telling me what you would do with any of the sizes (different comments for each different size will get you extra entries).
2. Leave a separate comment telling me the difference between a shower cap and CoverMate Food Covers.
3. Leave a separate comment telling me something you learned from the website.
I’ll choose a winner on Friday (9/17). Good luck!
Haha, i love all three of the ways to enter… You definitely know how to make a contest different!
I am thinking i would use the small CoverMate to cover my wallet when it rains so all of my cards/id’s don’t get completely soaked!
And i might even use a large one to cover my textbooks walking from class to class in the rain! They are always soaked in my bag when i get to class, haha.
Maybe for food as well! 😉
i would use the medium size for canned goods like pumpkin!
large for oatmeal bowls. it would be perfect for overnight oats~
extra large one to steam veggies fast!!! esp since school is starting next week. which means i’ll be home late to really cook. microwave sometimes help!
heehee, shower cap is for your head while cover mate is for food~ 🙂
i learned from the website that these can be used for SQUARE or ROUND dishes. AWESOME. Also, they can be REUSED!! omgggg! that’s fabulous. they can be washed even in dishwasher~
I’d use the medium sized ones to cover food in the fridge so we can use our more portable tupperware for lunches and stuff.
I’d also put a leave a large one at work to use when microwaving (we don’t have a microwave at home because the husband is afraid of them).
The extra large seems like it would be useful in transporting food to potlucks.
Those look awesome! I would love to use them for my GIGANTIC collection of lidless tupperware!
Also-shower caps apparently break down, while CoverMates are made of food grade plastic.
Small would be perfect for cans of refried beans. I mean, I love my bean and cheese burritos, but using a WHOLE can of refried beans at once is a little excessive.
From the website I learned that CoverMates are made in Hayward, California, which is kind of local to me. That makes them even better!
And I’d use the small for covering open cans of beans. They seem to be a commonly opened and not entirely used, canned food!
I would definitely use the small size for steaming veggies in the microwave!
The large size would be great for leftovers after parties for things like fruit salads and casseroles!
Who says there’s a difference? You might catch me with one on my head if my shower cap goes missing
On the website I learned that by keeping oxygen out and allowing for more CO2 it slows down the ripening process for fruits and vegetables!
I would use the small ones to cover jars in the fridge for which my husband “misplaces” the jar tops! Oh, men!
I would use the medium size ones to cover the bowls we put in the microwave to make my daughter’s organic baby food. These would be GREAT for that!
Not to be redundant, but I would also use the large ones to cover the bowls we put in the microwave to make my daughter’s organic baby food – depending on what we are making her that week.
The extra large size would be great to cover items after having company over and having a bunch of leftovers instead of dirtying another dish by using tupperware. Great giveaway!
Just a heads up that I’m not sure you are supposed to store food in opened cans. I usually transfer the leftover beans or what not to a separate glass container.
I could definitely put these to good use in my kitchen! They look pretty awesome. 🙂
I JUST bought these after my aunt sent me home with a “vintage” last summer, and I used that thing over and over until I finally had to politely return it. They are genius.
Sometimes you can find them in True Value or Ace with cute fruit designs on them.
i learned from their website that they are made from food-grade polyethylene film (yay chemistry)
difference between covermate and a showercap? showercaps melt in the micro.. trust me, i just tried it.
small size, covering canned beans fo sho. even i can’t handle that much fiber in one sitting.
medium size, covering the top of one of the many tupperware containers that have mysteriously lost their lids
large size, covering a leftover bowl of fruit/tossed salad
extra large size, covering a tray of vegan lasagna!

I would use the
sm ones to cover open cans that I transfer the contents into a mug first to get it out of the metal:).
I would use the
med ones to cover my oatmeal when I put it in the micro to help with spillage.
Difference between a shower cap and cover mate…to funny:)
I’d say the chemistry of the materials…food grade vs. not
Cover mate covers are made of FDA food safe materials…shower caps are not!
Courtney
I learned on the website that cover mates are not recyclable, but they are reusable…
Courtney
I’d use the mini to cover open cans in the fridge!
Courtney
I’d use the medium to cover a plate/bowl and micro that baby 🙂
Courtney
I’d use the large to cover a serving/casserole dish in the fridge…
Courtney
And I’d use an extra-large to cover a pie plate/serving platter.
Courtney
This just made me laugh! shower cap fa sho!
Okay, so I am new to healthy eating so i would use the large size to steam my vegetables that I am startingt to fall in love with!
Cover mates are for you food while shower caps are for your head.
Small size would be great for those half eaten cans of food or for jars that have somehow lost there top!
Hey! If I don’t win them, where can I buy them?
i would use it to cover up all of the cans in my fridge!
I’d use the large one to steam veggies like you do- living on campus limits me of tupperware/glassware/pots/pans and anything you can think of! I miss my steamed veg!
Medium to cover black beans…. my husband loves to open them to put on nachos but he always forgets to cover them up before putting the half-eaten can back into the fridge 🙂
Large to cover leftovers….
And extra large to steam huge bowls of veggies! 🙂
ill cover un-eaten toddler snack plates
i learned the are not recyclable but reuseable
they are diff from a shower cap b/c shower caps stink something awful to me 🙂
Medium= canned goods
large= salads
extra large= casseroles
the difference is that the shower caps dont protect from BPA-ness 🙂
They are reusable and not recyclable
Oo! i love these! I always feel so wasteful using saran wrap. This is genius!
I’d use the small ones to cover the end of a half eaten cucumber!
the medium/large one would be perfect for a half eaten melon!
And of course the extra large one to steam a massive amount of veggies.
Cuz thats how i roll =)
these look awesome!!
i’d use the little ones for canned pumpkin since i like to savor it one serving at a time.
the medium ones would be great for covering bowls of veggies in the microwave for maximum steam power 🙂
I’d use the large one for a shower cap…wait…that’s a seperate question….:) Just kidding…ummm large ones would be ideal for overnight oats!
extra large = covering huge bowls of salad in the fridge that i like to chop once and eat throughout the week! i HATE seeing good produce go to waste because of lack of covering!
wellllll i highly doubt, a shower cap would be microwave and dishwasher safe 😉
i learned on the website that the woman in the video is not such a great actress…she should probably keep her day job. haha. no but seriously…i learned that there are four vents in each corner for best steam action 😉

Lol I’d use it as a shower cap? Or maybe to cover melons 🙂
The can-sized one would come in handy SO FREQUENTLY! As someone who frequently eats alone, I can never finish a whole can of beans/tomatoes/soup in one sitting.
Ooooooh, great product! So simple & smart. I’d use the small one to cover my half used cans of beans and soup. Perfect!
I’d use the small size to cover my can of pumpkin that I use a bit of each morning in my oats.
The medium size would be great for covering bowls of salad in the fridge. I would also use it to cover melons that have been cut into, that would be so great!
Large covers would be oh-so useful for covering and reheating casserole dishes, and for putting over my pot that doesn’t have a lid for steaming veggies! I HATE that I don’t have a lid for one of my pots!
Although covermate covers look like shower caps, and probably could be used as shower caps, they are so much better (and more useful in the kitchen!). They are re-usable, dishwasher and microwave safe(HUGE plus!), BPA free, latex free, and PVC free! Not bad! I also love that they have a little vent hole making them perfect for steaming things. Vent holes in a shower cap would be, well, counter productive!
From visiting their website, I learned that Cover Mate bowl covers are stretchy, so they will fit anything! Also, they are durable enough that you can stack them! I would never have thought that to be true! The main con about these is that they are not recyclable. At least you can re-use them to your hearts content!

** even easier …. just bring home the shower caps from your hotel the next time you travel… been using them as “Cover mates” for YEARS! Works beautifully every single time!
i’d be a bit cautious though…shower caps are made of plastic whereas covermates are made of an FDA approved food-safe material. who knows what kinds of cancer shower caps could cause.
thanks for the heads up, but its really only true for acidic things (tomato stuff, canned pineapple, etc). the acidity can cause leaching from tin cans…but i also don’t think cans are made of the same materials that were around when these wives tales originated…either way, i think a few days of leftover beans are ok.

Finding this post 2 1/2 years after the fact, but so glad I did. I’m so tired of wasting plastic wrap, and I told my husband just last night that someone needs to invent a shower cap-style food cover. I actually Googled “dishwasher-safe shower cap,” and that search directed me here! I will be investing in a pack of these ASAP!
