Not being a foodie

Final day in Chi town!  (Do people call it that?  Am I like the people who call SF “frisco” and think it’s a thing and everyone else from the Bay Area cringes in agony?) Here’s a shot of our gym on the 30th floor.  As you can see, the weather was still sluggish. Kyle had a weird reaction (chills/night sweats) the previous night and swore it was from the insanely indulgent food and basically refused to join me at Do-Rite Donuts the next day.  I gave him plenty of crap for it (because 99% of the… Read more >

Hi vibe avec my husband

I’m going to race through the rest of our time in Chicago now just to show the food highlights. Kyle and I were in the mood for a healthier start to the day so we hit up Hi Vibe Juicery for acai bowls. They have so many awesome options on the menu, but we both went with the classic acai bowl only I subbed stevia for honey.  The maca almond butter on top was incredible.  Totally made us feel like we were in Hawaii even though we were actually huddled under an overhang while eating… Read more >

Go Chica Go

We are in Chicago WITHOUT KIDS! We landed on Friday evening and despite it being JUNE (!) it was pretty chilly and foggy.  Bummer.  We went straight to our hotel and changed for our first dinner reservation at 9 pm at Gibson’s. We made it just in time to watch the Warriors win at the bar while waiting to be seated. Kyle got the crab bisque to start and I got the salad with balsamic vinaigrette.  He won that order for sure. For dinner he got the Chicago cut which was HUGE and meant to… Read more >

Lacking in produce

For my last meal with kale in a decade (dramaticcccccc) I used the rest of this tahini miso dressing with kale, spiralized butternut squash and pecorino romano. And that’s the last time I had vegetables.  Ever.  The end. Ok not really, but I was trying to polish off all the food in the house without buying anything new, so as a result the produce drawer has been deserted for quite a while.  We are starting off summer with a bang and hitting the road.  But because I am SO anti food waste, I made sure… Read more >

Strawberries season

Kyle was gone earlier this week and look what he came home with!? Breakfasts have been different lately.  I’m really into starting the day with fruit right now and I can’t seem to get enough berries (but then I add nut butter to hold me over). So when Kyle brought the crate home I was in heaven. I also made chia jam. With a bit of shaved ginger for some extra zing. Then I baked these muffins, which are made with tapioca starch and coconut flour.  I made some tweaks and although they look a… Read more >
