Rice, flour, toilet paper

I am very perplexed at the moment. Why is all the rice sold out? And flour of every kind! What is happening? How is there still no toilet paper on target.com or amazon.com? It’s not like people are going to the bathroom more than normal, right??? It’s been nearly three weeks since the shelter in place order and I have yet to buy any hygiene products but now it’s getting close to the time when I will need to and the supply chain still hasn’t caught up?!?! Where is the glitch in the system? Can… Read more >

Almost like normal

I bought this salad kit for the mix of lettuce, not so much the other ingredients, because it’s unique to find a medley with radicchio in it. I love radicchio, but I think I may be in the minority. Which is just as well, since this salad was just for me šŸ™‚ I added slivered almonds to the mix, too. And on the side I had tome goat gouda, which was an impulse purchase that I didn’t even have time to have buyers remorse over because shopping conditions are too stressful, I can’t even allow… Read more >

Stretching every ingredient

We were supposed to be in Japan by now and I haven’t been able to talk about it without pangs of sorrow, but here I am, finally mentioning it. BLAH. I don’t feel like writing more about it because it’ll just come across as whiny and insensitive when the fact of the matter is, this pandemic is a major freakin’ crisis. Rationing but relishing

We still haven’t been to the store and Kyle and V comment on a daily basis that I’m somehow making the absolute 100% most awesome meals (to quote them). So that’s a nice little thing to hear considering my limitations. This should be a Top Chef challenge. And speaking of challenges…I am still riding the endorphins of “rise to the challenge” mode with regard to parenting and home-schooling and keeping the kids happy and occupied and engaged with enough structure that they feel safe but not too much that our house turns into a classroom…. A pantry with pepitas

Cabbage mighty cabbage! The green with the longest shelf life ever! I grabbed two heads of cabbage at the store before this whole shindig went down and look at us here, two weeks later, just getting around to using it because it lasts for-eh-ver. I should have gotten four heads! Ok, not really, because that’s hoarding (and you know by now that I am working very hard on not giving in to that). Worth mentioning: we bought a new fridge for the garage last month that was all fridge, no freezer, and I am SO… Read more >
