R + D

Last week, Kyle and I took a two-day trip to Newport Beach.  Just because.  We had no agenda, but we did manage to pack our days.  We hit up la playa (Corona Del Mar); I found a bridesmaid’s dress for Jess’ wedding next weekend (better late than never, right!); we watched a good deal of soccer; and we washed Rolf (le civic). These summer days have me sucking down iced coffees with soy milk like a fiend – reminiscent of my former days of employment (which were primarily caffeine fueled).  These carrot chips are fan-freakin-tastic. … Read more >

(more) Monterey munchies

While my previous Monterey post mainly featured our B&B and the Aquarium, I know I alluded to a few good meals, so I figured I should go into some detail about those…I mean The Old Monterey Inn is definitely worthy of being highlighted, but this is a food blog after all. First, and most importantly, the caffeine. Plumes Coffee won my heart over with their insanely extensive coffee selection. Ree-dik I ordered the Kona coffee (which was the most $$$ by the way), while Kyle got Steve’s Smooth French.  His was the brew of the… Read more >

Monterey

Oh man, have I been living the dream!  As I previously mentioned, Kyle and I have been (blissfully) adding more mileage to our new civic this past week… We worked our way down the state, stopping in Monterey for a few days before settling in Santa Barbara for a few more. We stayed at the CUTEST B&B in Monterey called Old Monterey Inn.  Have you ever stayed at a Bed & Breakfast?  I loved everything from the decor (we were in “The Library”) to the fireplace to the happy hour (with chocolates and pistachios) to… Read more >

Hey Mickey!

Prepare yourself for some rather graphic images.  Gigi and Lulu, you have been warned. Going… Going… Going… (Still) going… Gone! The obituary of Mickey Mouse: Mr. Mouse was violently murdered over the weekend.  The main cause of death was trauma to the head.  After each ear was removed, the culprit next moved onto the facial features.  First to go were the eyes, followed by the cute button nose, and finally, the face as a whole.  There is no telling why the head was demolished with such speed, but the beloved mouse will definitely be missed…. Disneyland for the veg lovers

People don’t go to Disneyland for the food.  Period. The fact that things cost six times what they should isn’t even the worst part (and I’m no stranger to paying $20 for a salad – Whole Foods hot bar?).  Nothing screams gourmet like a Pluto Dog (how sad, by the way, for kids to associate their meal’s “meat” with a beloved character).  But, like I said, that’s not why people go to the “Happiest Place on Earth.”  Expect the worse, and you’ll never be disappointed right? So, in the interest of being prepared, I did… Read more >
