Mexican Layered Dip

Because (a) I’m without Windows Live Writer (still learning how to get XP on my MacBook), (b) I’m not very savvy with wordpress’ blogging tool, and (c) it’s taking me an hour to load each photo, I’m going to post another photo recipe from last weekend. It’s not like I reinvented the wheel with this one (the recipe is certainly not original), but the photos are pretty and I thought I should share. (Vegetarian) refried beans Black beans. Sour cream. Corn roasted salsa. Four cheese blend. Black beans. Avocado. More avocado. Salsa. Devour. I made the… Read more >

Seeking seaweed

Cravings are both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because they help me make up my mind (I swear 99% of the time I can’t decide on what to make for dinner even when I’m half-way through making it). A curse because when I do get that oh-so-rare lightbulb moment, it’s usually for a fairly random food and the chances of me actually having it on hand are slim to none. The other day my mind stomach was absolutely dead set on seaweed. Oddly enough, I actually had some wakame chilling in the pantry. I… Read more >

Cheesy Spinach Dip: a photo recipe

I am truly blown away by the amazing responses to yesterday’s post. Putting yourself out there can be such a risk…the fear of being judged by others…the vulnerability of exposing your own “issues” for all the world to read about…but your thoughtful, kind, and appreciative comments about what I shared overwhelmed me.  Thank you for reminding me that honesty is embraced, that blogging is far more rewarding than just recipe sharing & restaurant reviewing, and that the support and personal connections (with virtual strangers no less) are the reason we are such a unique community…. Coooookie crisp

Remember that commercial?  It was for that hideously unhealthy dessert disguised as a cereal?  These cookies have nothing to do with that reference, I just randomly thought of it when I began typing this post. A while ago I received a box of desserts from WOW Baking Company, a wheat and gluten free operation redefining what that means for cookies and brownies. I reviewed a few of the individually packaged cookies previously, but have saved the last few for a post all of their own.  Because the company uses real butter, my dairy-free stomach wasn’t… Read more >

Nothing comes close to the golden coast

Had a pretty legit weekend.  As if Santa Monica beach time wasn’t fun enough, Kyle and I headed off to Palos Verdes and then San Clemente… It all started with le beurre de cacahuetes (aka the butter of nuts).  Add a duo of WF multi-grain bread slices…   And some strawberry jammin’… And it’s a PB&J par-tay.  Nothing fancy, but simplicity is often underrated (that’s kinda my roundabout way of saying being on a budget can lead to boring repetitive meal choices). Lunch was quick and snackalicious.  WF’s traditional hummus and a soft pretzel (that… Read more >
